Hi guys

Just an update for you all. I spoke to Len at BSA this morning in regards to custom offsets. He advised me that the majority of the 4wd wheels that they import and sell come to them as blank/solid centres and at most have an offset of 5. At their warehouse/factory they make the custom offset plus drill the stud holes and do the PCD's to customers requests and this is free of charge. This can be done to all types of finishes on the wheels from painted, to machine and chrome.

You can view their range of 4wd wheels here http://www.bsawheels.com.au/products_index.asp?ItemType=4WD+SUV.

Hope that helps somewhat. :)

Afternoon team,

I understand tyres have speed and load ratings. Surely rims have load ratings as well? What are the factory 16 inch alloys load rating?

The tech specs only seem to offer the tyre, not the rim,

Is this an issue with after market rims?

Yeah it is an issue. I looked into it when I bought mine. They were rated for about 900kg each from memory which I figured was enough. Not sure what the stock rims are rated at.

You will never get a manufacture (vehicle) to give you the rating of their standard fitment rims.
Note that 900 would be the lowest rating acceptable (rear diff rating is 1800) but note the tyre rating when transferred into kg's is actually higher than this. If the manufacture rates the tyres as a minimum this is what I would be using for the rims, BUT this is difficult with the triton

How much do you put on safety and ability to get home
There have been wheel breakages on the triton

Sucks to be you, glad I bought a 3.2 :o

Thanks 26,

So 111 is 1090kg per tyre. So we should aim for that as a minimum.

So here's the figures I was given by the people at Speedy when I was looking for alloys:

17x7.5 Avalanche 25p offset - 1120kgs
17x8.0 Blizzard 25p offset - 1180kgs
17x7.5 Chariot 20p offset - 1180kgs
17x8.0 Flame 25p offset - 1180kgs

17x7.5 Grande is load rated to 955kgs.

Looks like I chose the only one that didn't make the grade by the tyre rating. Hopefully the grande II which is what I eventually bought, had a slightly higher number

Thanks CD,

Trying to find this sort of info for the wheels I am looking at is damn near impossible. Can hardly find any tech info from there websites.

Hoping a couple of suppliers come through for me.

I just emailed manufacturers direct. Got responses pretty fast.

Evening All,

Another question that may get a few  but I am not sure on this one

I am looking at new rims and the ones I want are hard to source in Aus. They are 17x8.5 +14 offset and the correct stud pattern 6x139.7. The Bore is 106.4 but I am assuming a spacer will sort that out.

What I am unsure of is, is the offset the main thing to consider in regards to clearing the brake calipars? I understand that by going from +38 to +14 i am moving the rim edge out (widening the track, per side) by 24mm but is this enough to ensure the brakes are clear? Is this even related?

I have asked a few Aus shops in regards to fit fitment but none have them in stock so dont give any answers. I would purchase from a local but they dont appear keen to assist. So I am looking at sourcing direct from the US but it will be a $1200+ stuff up if they foul on the brakes.

Rims: Fuel Offroad Octane Matte Black

Tech sheet, 3rd from the top.

If only the US were enlightend enough to drive Tritons this would be a lot easier

Thanks for any assistance

It's not the offset that determines whether a wheel will fit over the front callipers. It's the shape of the back of the spokes. The offset just moves the rim itself in relation to the spokes which remain fixed to the car. Most don't and the only way to be sure is to physically check, unless the manufacturer specifically includes your vehicle in a fitment list. Think the Triton is difficult? Try the current series Pajero which has 4 pot front brakes. Very few wheels fit, as I've just found out.

Unless you can be very sure that those wheels will work it might be safer to find something local.

111 tyre load rating is at maximum pressure.
Lower pressure, lower load rating. Tyre manufacturers put out a chart.

But yes, good idea, wouldn't hurt to have the rim stronger than the tyre. :o)

Just has the same issue on the 2012 triton.
The aftermarket rims I had on the previous pajero clashed with the calipers.
Spokes were not dished enough by about 8mm.
Bought some CSA / Mullins rims sold as a triton rim and all OK, clear by 10mm.

C-dale

I looked at a the Fuel Offroad wheels when I was searching
wheels, they're a good range of wheels.

I went to Sydney to look at wheels,
• Ozzy Tyres ( where I got my KMC Wheels)
http://www.ozzytyres.com.au/store/wheel-tyre-packages

16" Wheels
http://www.ozzytyres.com.au/store/wheel ... &size=2774

17" Wheels
http://www.ozzytyres.com.au/store/wheel ... &size=2772

• Tempe Tyres (massive range of rims & have Fuel wheels)
http://www.tempetyres.com.au/products_index.php?4WD-SUV

• Teleb Tyres (smaller set up but have Fuel Offroad & V-Rock Wheels)
http://www.talebtyres.com.au/fuel-off-road-wheels.asp
http://www.talebtyres.com.au/vrock-wheeels.asp

All were very happy opening boxes & sitting them beside my
Triton to get an idea.

There's a couple of links above to the Offroad wheels
I was looking at.

Thanks DD,

Am fairly keen on the Fuel Octane rims but just want some sort of guarentee that they will fit or that I can return them if they dont. I have checked out quite a few websites, Oz and OS but no luck on getting the info. Tech9tyres has a gallery of photos with the wheels I want on an FJ Cruiser and a new Colorado but the only pictures they have of Tritons is with massive rims and low profile tyres  not my thing. Am waiting on email resposes from a couple of stores. Returning emails dont seem to be a priority though. Mind you I can understand their reluctance as with that info I could buy the rims for $1000 cheaper from the states. Prefer to buy local if I can just for piece of mind, pending their fitment guarentee of course.

Wheel Porn  that's tops!!!

Yeah guys I had a lot of fun looking through all the sites for a new set of
wheels, also looking for something that you didn't see on every second dual cab!!

That Tech9 site was probably the best range, when you find the wheels you like then begin
to hassle for decent prices!!
