Thanks Chris!! ;) Good to be back!! Lots has happened since I was here last...I became a professional photographer, had a baby, bought some new stuff for the triton etc etc etc!! :D

I have been looking at the possibility of alloys but steelies are just so much cheaper, and more readily available.

Thanks for the info...I figured by the calcs I'd done, it would be as close to yours & AG's...plus I'll get the tyres under the vehicle lease!! SCORE!!!

Hey Adz good to see you back :D :D . Remember one other big difference with steelies is weight and it impact on braking.

I have decided against the 34s and going 285/75/16 Silverstome Sports. I can get 5 16x8 sunnies for $100 but they are 0 offset. I'm guessing these would be outside the guards. Does anyone have the same or similar setup? Pictures or measurements would be great ;)

G'day I currently have ballistic off road 16/8 rims with mickey thompson's 265/75/16 mt. I love the look but have been told that they are 2 sizes too big. They do rub on the front left mud flap on the inside when turning left. The sticker on the inside driver door states 205s can I put smaller tyres on these rims and be legal still.

If your tyre placard says "205" then you must have a GLX, without the wheel arch flares. Depending on the offset of your wheels it is likely that the tyres will rub, as you say. The VR/GLX-R/GLS wheel arch flares move the mudflap out and this gives that little bit more room needed when turning. Usually the wheels should be about the same width as the actual tread. Typically on a 265 this is around 200mm so they're right for those tyres but too wide for anything too much smaller.

Your choices are to add the wheel arch flares and mudflaps or to go to a narrower rim/tyre combination.

His guys

I'm looking at the 16x8 Allied Wasp Black Crome wheels. I called into the local
Bob Jane last week to price these wheels with BFG AT's. 265/75 - 16
I think he said they don't have the perfect offset & they would "just" stick out.......

I don't mind them sticking out a little but I don't want them looking ridiculous.

I'll try to post a pic of the rims (when I learn how)

Do you know what sort of offset options the rims have? Some manufacturers will offer the same wheel with different offsets to suit different vehicles, so you may find there's an option available for you ;)

I think the guy said it was 0 offset & was not going to be any good as
they will stick out?

But this is off their website;

NEW – BLACK CHROME FINISH
Size: 16X7, 16X8
PCD: 5/114.3 , 6/114.3 , 6/139.7
Offset: +25mm , -5 , -15

Thanks for that, I'm not sure why he said they didn't do the
correct size I needed. Obviously the website says they have that offset
so I think I'll try another dealer.

Anybody recommend where to go around Newcastle?

Rim dish depth to clear front brake calipers?

2012 MN triton - GLX - 16: rims.

Don't see any mention of the rim dish depth to clear the front calipers.

Just tried fitting my +10 offset 16x6 patrol rims (from my previous 1996 pajero) to the front of the triton, and the offset and stud PCD is fine, but the back of the rim centre catches the brake calipers.

Reckon they need another 5 to 10mm depth to clear the calipers.

Any one else had this issue?

Which rims work? Might go for 16x7 this time, and not run the 235/85-16.

OK sorted the problem. Got some mullins/CSA 16x7 steel rims.
Spokes more dished and clear the front calipers by about 7mm.
Got them at wholesale price, $61.00 ea new. Now for the tyres.
Centre hole is 110mm dia, so will fit the trailer.

Hi guys

I'm hoping this may be of assistance to some of you out there.

When I purchased my GLX-R in Feb 2013 I simply didn't like the look of the factory wheels. I looked around and didn't really like any aftermarket 17" wheels either so I decided to go down to 16" wheels. I wanted a set of CSA Magnums but I was informed by Mullins Wheels the offset was only 20, not 38 so I would be in trouble for laws in NSW which would also void my car insurance should I have an accident.

I then found a company called BSA Wheels. These people have a massive range of mag wheels and they will actually do a "custom offset" for you on all the mag wheels they sell. My wife and I liked the Velocity VW-442 (which look similar to the CSA B-Loc) in 16" x 7". BSA then gave us a custom offset of ET38. They fitted perfect and look good on too.

I would post up a photo of my GLX-R for you but since I'm a newby I don't have such privileges yet but here is a link to the wheels I purchased http://www.bsawheels.com.au/products_closeup.asp?part=&part_no=328&Name=

Here is a link to the BSA website too http://www.bsawheels.com.au/products_index.asp?ItemType=Wheel

You can upload photos as a newbie if you use photobucket or flickr or similar to host your images. Look at the forum guide in my signature below for info on how to do that.

Interesting to find a place that will do custom offsets, that's very cool. Do you mind me asking what sort of money we're talking about for custom alloys?

Hi CD

The service is "free of charge" as long as you buy the wheels through them, or a dealership. Mine cost me $800 for the 4 wheels. I have a business (nothing what so ever to do with vehicles though) so I was allowed to deal with and purchase them direct and that included from memory freight too. The gent there told me that the centres on all wheels can be modified there at their head office and when mine arrived I could clearly see on the inside of the centre hole where they had performed the work to make that correct offset. I had F1 Wheels and Tyres on the Gold Coast fit mine for me and even they commented on it and found it a great service.

That's pretty good going for a custom rim. I paid about $180 a rim for off the shelf speedy grande alloys when they were on sale so I'd call your price excellent (especially with interstate freight). I noticed they also do an alloy that is nearly identical to mine and offer some heavy duty rims for heavy 4wds.

All in all a good score I reckon mate and I thank you for sharing it 8-) :D

Hi mate

Not a problem at all. I've been thinking about it and discussing it with the wife and I have a feeling, and can easily make a phone call to them tomorrow and double check again but I think they told me that all wheels that are painted, have the machine finish come with a solid centre and they drill the holes for the PCD and offset there on-site at their factory in Sydney. From memory they said they also only do the custom offset for wheels that have a centre cap too. I'm sure they said they don't do chrome wheels as the drilling and machining would damage the chrome finish but I'm not 100% on that

I will give them a call tomorrow and ask again though.
