Forgot to add are adaptors road legal?
And when you say adaptor you don't mean spacers right

Sorry for all the questions. The whole tyre size, rim, offset and borehole/ hubcentric thing is tripping me out a little

That particular rim looks like you might be able to choose different borehole sizes. Worth asking the tyre people anyway.

I bought speedy rims and when they arrive they came with alloy spacers the fit my vehicle. I assume they ordered them to match but they came from the people who made the rims.

When we're talking about adapters or spacers in this context they're purely to fill that gap between a bigger borehole and a smaller hub. That's legal.

Spacers that push the rim out away from the hub and further down the studs are the ones that aren't legal.

Hey team, one more quick question.

Spoke to the tyre guys and theyre trying to convince me to go 16x7. I prefer 16x8

Are there any benefits and drawbacks to either size?

Extra info: This is for a 265 75 r16 tyre with +20 offset for both 7 and 8 inch rims

Thanks

will work with both- but if you decide to increase in tyre size to 285 wide at some time down the track you will need to upgrade the rims again.

better for your sake to cover any eventuality.

mind you, you will not be able to go back to stock width with the 8" rim

Do you think the rim size will effect the extent to which the contact patch of the tyre will bag out under low pressures - assuming the same tyre in each case? Would be interested to see a real world comparison on that.

I'll probably never go back to stock width.

What would you do? 7 or 8?

I would be interested to know how the width of the rim would effect the tyres when aired down as well as Dave said

I have two sets of rims but both are 7.5 so I'm not much help to you.

I would guess that with the narrower rim there is more sidewall available to bend outwards but I'm having trouble describing what I mean without waving my hands around or doing a drawing.

When tyres "bag out" due to lower pressures they are actually talking about the contact patch becoming longer not wider. Yes it will widen but most of the growth is in length.
So width difference between 7" and 8" is marginal compared to length growth.
Think tank tracks. All there contact patch is length related.

Yeah I recall those posts. And for sure it will be marginal since I guess at worst we're talking a half inch each side. What else comes into play though? Maybe there's a slight difference in sidewall exposure? Probably no big deal in the end seeing as the MNs came stock in a 7.5 anyway (for GLXRs) although that was for a 17 inch tyre.

Hi everyone,
Apologises in advance if this has been covered somewhere, I've read just about every page and I'm more confused now than before! Simply put, my mate just bought a 09 glxr, I'm not sure yet if it's a MN or ML, he has a set of 16x8 black alloy's that he'll swap for my 17x8 alloy's from my 12glxr. Is it as easy as a straight swap? I'm trying to get my head around all this offset business, so I'm sorry if this question is to broad.

Unless he has some drastically different offset it shouldn't be a problem. But you would want to find out what offset he has. ML and MN Tritons typically have +38 offset. But they are also typically 7" rims and you are talking about 8" rims from your GLXR?

Yeah mine are 8" as far as I'm aware.

So to be 100% certain you will need to know what the two sets offsets are.

MN wheels are 7.5", not 8". ML 16" diameter alloys were 7". All had +38mm offset.

If they're all factory wheels then it's a straight swap, but why in the world would you want to?

I can't upload pics as I'm out at work but they are both aftermarket sets, his are all black which I'm after as I don't really like the look of mine. (There's a pic of them in the wheels and tyre thread.)

17inch rugged wheels with yokohama geolanders, came with the ute when i bought it in november last year. Would love to upgrade to a nice set of black alloys with cooper st maxx's soon though.

You should be able to find the offset stamped on the inside of the rim.

Had a quick look at the Rugged Wheels website but couldn't see your rims to determine offset

Thanks very much har051, I'll have a look soon. Hoping it's an easy swap and my mate doesn't pull out cause his rims are exactly what I want!

If he has them running on his Triton it's hard to see why it would be a problem for them to run on yours.
