I've been running Maxtrek muds for a couple of years as a second set in 265 75 16. Paid $169 each on ebay. I've found them great off road but terrible on road.

Hi all
I now have to replace my Yoko Geolanders after just 35,000 k, the Bob Jane salesman said I should get 80,000, thats one hell of a difference. Admittedly I am carrying a fair bit of weight, around 300 kilos, and most of my driving in hills but that sort of lifespan is piss poor to say the least. They were at least quiet, had good grip and tracked well off road with only one punture, a tek screw from a building site. The original road tyres did 60,000, but I wouldnt go back to them, however I'm after some recomendations for a better all terrain LT. Cheers

I've been quite happy with my toyo open country at2s. Had them on for around 30,000km now and still miles of tread. I tow every day around town with plenty of weight on board. They have been great off road and on dry bitumen. Recently they have got a bit loose in the wet when the ute has been unloaded. Never had a puncture and they have an 11 ply sidewall in the LT construction. Makes me glad i chose these as I was tossing up the geolanders at purchase time.

I am looking at getting a new set of tyres, I do like the aggressive look of muddies but being realistic I don't really need them so I am looking at a set of aggressive A/T (50/50), I have narrowed it down to the
BF Goodrich KO2 or the Cooper ST Maxx to keep it legal the size that I am looking at is 265/65r17. What are peoples options of these for on road, off road and tyre wear.

P.S...I don't want to start a Cooper v's BF war

Both American tyres so similar in many ways - harder compound, tend to chip and, if looked after, have potential for quite long life.

Personally, my one experience with BFG wasn't that good but I've had 3 sets of Coopers that have gone way above 100,000km.

What I have noticed is that some tyres seem to suit some vehicles more than others and the BFGs seem to go better on live front axle vehicles. Possibly because these suit the very square shoulders on the BFGs. On IFS a little less square seems to suit better. Another observation is that the BFGs don't clear as well as some other brands when in mud, probably due to the fairly rigid construction and shape of the tread blocks.

So, my vote would go to the Coopers. The problem with these straw polls is that you'll get equal numbers for your final contenders....and the odd vote for something that isn't on the list at all. Take more notice of the posts that try to give some explanation of why they're going with one product or the other. ;)

haven't had coopers personally have a couple mates that had them and weren't impressed with both life span or puncture resistance, have had bfg at 265 70 17 on my triton fir 50 k thus far and admittedly they have chipped a little on Rocky terrain but in my opinion are a fantastic tyre and worth the coin I paid, excellent performance in all terrains and never a puncture I would think they be good fir another 50k without to much trouble but time will tell..
p.s you will get good and bad reviews about any tyre !!

Wondering if someone can help me out with this, I'm all kinds of confused. Yesterday I picked up a set of genuine Mitsubishi steel rims, I'm wanting to ditch the factory alloys off my triton and switch them over. The 4 steelies I have are all 16x6 my spare is a from factory steelie that is 16x7 am I going to have any issues here. Also are the nuts from my alloys interchangeable to the steelie or am I needing all new new wheel nuts. Currently I have the general shank nuts they give you.

Finally will I have any dramas fitting new tyres, not thinking of going any bigger than what's already on the car. Which is a 245/70/r16 as I don't think the dramas associated with trying to fit a 245/75/r16 will be worth it.

Also if it helps I'm looking at fitting Bridgestone Duler At's

Cheers guys

Newer steel rims are 16x7 +38

Some of the older steel rims are 16x6 +46
No idea if 16x6 +38 rims exist.

245/75R16 are 30.5x9.7R16 30.5" tyres will fit easily on stock rims.

The standard triton alloy wheel nuts are suitable for both Triton alloys and triton steelies otherwise every triton with a steel spare would be supplied with a spare set of steel only wheel nuts.
Other rims? Who knows. You would need the taper on the rim and the taper on the OEM nuts to work that out. My kings steelies used the same taper as Hyundai Excel wheel nuts.

Steel spares with alloy rims? The horror. In my day the spare was alloy too. What are things coming to?

Cheers for the feedback guys. Ended up going out and buying the new nuts. Wasn't going to pay the stealer price. Wanted $140 for 24 nuts. What a joke

Change your wheels. -25 is way too much. To make those work you'd have to cut the metal guards/wheel arches as well as fitting much wider wheel arch moulds. Apart from the legality aspect that much offset is likely to just cause you more grief. Didn't you research this before buying them?
