Cheers mate.

I'm sure others can chime in, but I just put 265/75/16. Prior to the change, the speedo reads 110kph compared to gps speed of 101kph.

With the change, speedo reads 110kph and gps speed of 109kph. Pretty much perfect all the way through!

In terms of fuel, I'm still working it out properly, but it hasn't been massive. With the original tyres it showed I travelled pretty much same kms on dash as I did to the gps. Within 1-2km per 100.

Now after the tyres, the gps showed I'd travelled 71.5km to work, and the dash showed I'd only travelled 66.6. Difference of 5.1km.

Previously, I would use about 10-11ltrs/100km averaging around 650-700km per tank.

Now, I get around 600 before dash light flashes, and still have 10ltrs left in tank.

Once I add the difference of the 50km to the actual distance travelled it's pretty much the same!

Hioe this helps some what, it's pretty much similar, and better than I'd expected to be honest. The biggest change is the gear choice on Hills. That's noticeable more than anything, but I dropping it back is no issue and doesn't seem to impact on the fuel much for me! This is my experiance anyways!

I too have just updared to this size from my stock tyres to the KO2 and took it up to the cape just coming back last week. Tyre pressure was at 40 psi. It was a most comfortable ride there and back, even over the corrugations I pumped them up to 41.5 to mitigate damage. Driving along the sand I needed to drop them down to 14psi to get me out of tricky situations, I managed to use my winch three times to get out of some soft powdery sand. The best thing I did was changing the tyres to a higher spec and wider tyres, the drive was most comfortable, I believe that the tyre size is within legal parameters according to Jacs, as you are allowed I believe a change of 20%. Qld rego.

I honestly believe that the stock tyres performed better on soft sand and have never needed to recover, up until I changed tyres, I am off to Fraser for a few weeks at Christmas, I will have a better idea then on MN/tyre performance.

I also lost/ blew 3 Toyo LC tyres on the cape, I will not be changing my brand of tyres or size, I will however look at a lift kit for my next drive up there.

Enjoy the new tyres as I have.

I think you might have gone the wrong way with the pressures on the corrugations mate, I went down to about 28psi which with the weight I had on gave a little bit of a bag and it gave a comfy ride and my old man and I did the whole cape trip without killing a single tire (we were both running hankooks but I think the principal stands). Lots of guys on here smarter and more experienced than me though so feel free to correct me.

You are correct about highway terrains being better in soft sand though, HT's are generally the best on sand because of the soft sidewalls and non aggressive tread pattern but they are shitty everywhere else

Thanks Sootie. I saw the post last night and thought you guys would be all over it. Surprised that it took 22.5 hours for someone to pipe up and say that increasing pressures for corrugations isn't the best way and even 24psi may be too high. Most important thing is to slow down.

Mitigate damage to what I wonder? Maybe the tyre but surely your spine would be stuffed and all your fillings would rattle out. And the harder you go the less lateral traction you're going to have on an unsealed road.

Whats the widest you can go with a 2" lift and 2" body or even just a 2"lift. I've seen a bloke with 305's I believe, don't really want to cut guards etc. But I will If I have to.

Im currently looking to upgrade my tyres on my 2015 MN GLX+ from the original 245/70R16 Dunlops to either 265/70R16 or 245/75R16. Are both these tyre sizes Legal in NSW? Which tyre size would you guys recommend? Sorry in advance if this has been asked before.

They fall under the 7% mark so they are legal unfortunately 265/75r16 are 7.1% so illegal  . Ive been looking at the General Grabber AT2's as they look aggressive for an A/T but well priced but really depends on what you wanna do with your ute

Confoser?

Try Comforser. Never heard of them but a search, using the correct spelling, found one member who appears to have a set.

Google search found a few people asking the same question as you but I didn't see anything resembling a positive long term review.

Looking at their web site doesn't tell much. They have the capacity to make up to 6 million tyres a year which would make them a fairly small player in the domestic market.

I do want a set of these, though:

Just put a set of 265 70 16 GG AT2 on the Triton after Cooper AT3 and my fuel consumption went up 1L/100 this is with 38psi in them, same as I was running the Coopers, and probably reflects the greater aggression in the tread. Found them to be excellent on wet hard road, very good on wet clay and a little more noisy than the Coopers. The car rides very well with the new taller blocks and I can't break the grip around my roundabout like I could with the Coopers even when wet. They were offered to me when I went to pick up my new AT3's at a very good price so gave them a go. The seller advised me they are comparable with other USA made tyres Mickey Thompson and Cooper, Only done 3000km on them so will post how they wear...(Actually just checked the Diam of the AT2's and they are a lot bigger than the nearly down to the indicators Coopers, this would account for the extra fuel consumption, using the ratio they are only about .5L/100 more.)

I have been happy with my toyo open country at2s. Done 50,000kms and still plenty of tread left. Good on and of road but starting to get a bit slippery in the wet.

Ml triton GLX-R

Postby KINgFISH on Tue Mar 07, 2017 8:16 am

Hi guys I have a 2008 Ml triton looking at replacing the Highway tyres with some AT's probably looking at the silverstone AT117, anybody had these before Ive read a fair few reviews and the general feedback seems to be very good for the low price you pay.
If you guys had to recommend a size what would it be
looking at either
245/70R16
or 265/70R16
probably doing about 80 percent on road and then a off road trip most weekends.
Im very new to the 4x4 world so any help would be much appreciated.
