285/70/17 should work on 2" lift and +25 offset rims. Maybe a wheel alignment with a little more castor, You really should only need to maybe remove the mud flaps.

I'm going to be replacing my Goodyear Duratracs with either BFG T/A KO2 or Mickey T Stz's. Size is 265/75 R16.

Can anyone out there provide an update on theirs as I cannot for the life of me decide between the two. Seems to me that they are roughly the same price bracket which makes it tough to choose.

Would love to hear about your experiences with them.

Cheers

I just bought bfg ko2's last week with 4 17x5 sunraysers in 265/70/r16 paid 330 each at my local. So far I love them, I've done 300km so far and still haven't worn the hairs off the tyres. My only complaint is going from the standard at20's and alloy wheels is that it's harder to get used to driving takes longer to stop and you don't build up speed as quickly.

They are also a very quiet AT tyre I can only hear them at low speed with the windows down and it just sounds like the wind blowing through the trees.

Thanks for that. I really don't think I'll need a great deal of convincing to go the Bfg's. Rarely hear a bad thing about them.

I went with Mickey Thompsons ATZ P3's as I couldn't get BFG's. Seem a bit chunkier. Will see how they wear compared to my BFG's. Done around 800kms so far.

Yeah coming from the Duratracs I would rather a less chunky style. Haven't done bigger all off road stuff and all the roundabouts near my house have destroyed them.

Well your driving OVER them wrong! :) Even my evo_vii can take some of them at speed if i have the right line.

Not that I encourage anyone to use overabouts, i mean roundabouts in that manner.

Found the limits of my 697s in the mud/slop/clay on the weekend... They don't really like it.

The bloke with the jacked up cruiser running on simex's didn't seem to mind the slop funnily enough. Had enough traction to pull my sorry ass out.

Just removed the mudflaps. There is a small scrape at about 3/4 lock either way but its very minor. I am going to try and pot rivet the back of the guard behind each wheel to the chassis and see how it goes. Can't wait for the Jungle Flares to arrive. I assume there is a guide somewhere on here to install them.

Any advantage to running 245/75r16 vs 265/70r16 ? They work out to be almost the same diameter but the 245's are slimmer. Better for fuel consumption on the 245's or just go the 265's?

Thanks.

I've had 265/70/r16 on sunnies on my car for a week now in the bfg ko2 and have so far returned over 420 km to just over half a tank. This is in city driving all day long if this helps with a lot of stop & start

That sounds about the same as what I get at the moment. Thanks.

won't be getting tyres for a while but just seeing whats the best. Not much info on the 245/75r16's maybe they aren't that popular for a reason.

will be looking at some new treads at the end of the year
current rolling stock 265 70 17 bfg at
want to go slightly smaller diameter next
tossing up between these to which are same diameter
265 65 17. or
245 70 17 think I'll go bfg at again

I know not a lot of difference, but anyone like either of these sizes over the other ? and why ?
leaning towards 245 as may get slightly better fuel eco..
cheers

The 265/65R17 are slightly smaller diameter than the 265/70R17.

Have you considered 255? Bit of an oddball size but Navaras had them and may be a compromise between the 245s and 265s.

Hi guys,

Looking at upgrading the stock rubber and considering the bfg A/T KO2's 265/75/16 on the stock steelies.

Just wondering which load rating to go with. Aside from the obvious increase in load per tyre, are there any other benefits to having the higher load rating that would justify the extra $20 per tyre.

Options are

119R = 1360kg per tyre and 170kph
123R = 1550kg per tyre and 170kph

Both seem more than adequate but after some opinions either way.

Cheers

I can't even find the lower rated one on the BFG site. Are they maybe older stock that you're looking at? Seems odd that they would have two different ratings in the one size, unless one was LT and one not.

Grey imports, I'd guess, or old stock as CD suggests.

BFG's US spec tyre is also 1550kg but, curiously, that is at 80psi which seems a tad high for everyday use.

Thanks for the replies, It's from the same place so seems strange they offer two. I'll give them a call and see what they say

Spoke to a few suppliers , the lower rated tyres are grey imports (imported though the supplier) and won't come with bfg warranty, only store warranty (whatever that would be). They also aren't part of the current compressor promotion running with bfg.

I ended up going with a local mob, and getting 5 x 265/75/16 bfg ko2 fitted, balanced and wheel alignment for $1500.

Pretty happy with the price, and being fitted this Saturday! Pics to come ;)

This is the link to the promotion for anyone interested

Hi all, long time lurker here.

I'm about to take the plunge on new tyres for my 2013 MN GLX+. Stock tyre size is 245 70 16. Ute is completely unmodified from factory.

I'm trying to go as big as possible while staying within the +50mm legal limit (in TAS).

The ever popular 265 75 R16 will NOT be within this limit as the rolling diameter increases by 54mm.
I understand from numerous reports that 265 75 16 will fit on a stock MN without scrubbing but in some cases only just.

The closest to the 50mm limit I can find that actually exists as a commonly manufactured size is 275 70 16 for an increase of 42mm. The width increase is only 5% so well within legal.

My questions are: has anyone used this size on their MN?
and if not, for those using 265 75 16, how close is the clearance? can I squeeze another 5mm width each side for the increase to 275?

Is 265 so close I should be worried about suspension sag? My 3 year old factory suspension has taken some punishment...

I have been running 275/70/16 on mn tritons for about 100k. Don't really understand why it's not more popular do to 50mm rule. No scrubbing and no lift on standard rims

Because the 265/75/16 is a more stand size, easily available in pretty much any remote town in Aus.
