Does a Petrol Suffer From Shudder

Does a Petrol Suffer From Shudder

Postby Big Brad on Fri Oct 03, 2008 8:35 pm

Hey Guys.

Just got back from a week on Moreton Island with the Triton and whilst we got through everything the suspension , especially the front was crap.

Felt like I was driving a pogo stick.

The truck has done 45 000 klm and is still standard suspension wise.

Have read as much as possible on the forum about the dreaded shudder and am wondering if it affects petrol manuals or only diesel manuals??

I do about 55 000 klm on road a year so a lift is not a big issue for me but a small one would be good.

Have always used EFS on my Patrols and have been happy but these Tritons are set up completely different.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Brad

Brad,
Is your truck a manual? If it is it would probably suffer from the shudder with a lift.
Get the EFS ;) from memory I dont think it will give you to much of a lift but will make a huuuuuugh difference to your truck.
And if you do get a slight shudder you can turn your center bearing around 180deg (5min job) and It will definatly take it out.
My truck is sitting 60mm higher than standard in the ass end and I have stuff all shudder now ;)
Let us know how you go.

Thanks Buzzy

Yep it is a manual so shall go see EFS here in Brissy and see what comes of it.

Seems like an easy fix simply to spin the bearing around.

2" lift you should be fine
I suffered when lifting the rear above 3" with extended shocks and custom leaves

I required a tail shaft spacer but only after I went custom

Hey guys this might be a silly question but how do I know what sort of tail shaft I have. A one piece or a 2 piece as I really want a 2 inch lift

This might be a silly answer but if it was me I'd get under the car and have a look.

Is there
A) a single continous shaft between your gear box and diff
B) is there two shorter shafts, joined by a knuckle

I think all the V6 autos have the one piece tailshaft, happy to be corrected though.

The 2009 update definitely does have the one piece, auto or manual.
