Strut Torque Setting

Strut Torque Setting

Postby apples90 on Wed May 21, 2014 10:16 am

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me what the torque setting should be for the lower strut bolt of a MN ?

http://ftp.users.on.net/~holmes2804/Tri ... uspension/

had a look on here and I couldn’t find it, Also what is everyone’s opinion on extended rear brake lines for a 2inch lift ?

Fulcrum suspension said I wouldn’t need extended lines, also I am installing a Bilstein lift.

Cheers,
Sam

I have a bilstein lift. Extended lines arent essential, however come in handy. Plus the performance of braided lines is a great bonus.

Extended lines for the front are not essential, as Mitch pointed out. The is because the range of motion from the front is still limited by the bump stops. The braided lines do give a much better pedal feel though, and are less prone to splitting over time.

Thats fair enough for the front lines, how about for the rears ? i am doing the rears springs this arvy but i have seen pictures of the diff fully extened and putting some tension on the line, but i cant see how the diff would ever get extened this far in normal four wheel driveing ?

Also i am thinking the lower strutt bolt is the same size as the upper controll arm bolts, therefor i will torque it to around 100nm ?

Torque settings are on this drawing:

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

In a nutshell- if you have the money, get the rear brake lines. If you don't, you won't kill your brakes or car without them. I did 20,000km on standard lines with 2 inch bilstein lift.

Picture this scenario, you are driving along the beach (or track, whatever) cruising at 50km.
You spot a dip in the sand/track, no time to hit your brakes, your Triton becomes airborne.
This happened to me a few weeks ago.
This would put your suspension at full stretch, even more than if it was on a hoist.
I have extended rear lines so all ok but when I had my rear sus put in the lines were fully stretched but i was told that they would be ok.
Im not sure they would have been ok in the above example.
For peace of mind I would extend them.
Bruno.

You can space the bracket out as well for some more length if on a budget ;)

Don't forget to check the rear U bolt nuts after 500. The lil buggers have a habit of coming loose once every thing settles.

There's been a few of us that have lost our nuts after a lift.
