Suspension and/or Wheel alignment frustrations.

Suspension and/or Wheel alignment frustrations.

Postby mIwoo on Sun Aug 24, 2014 12:15 pm

I have a 2010 MN manual with a bulbar, lights and 31" AT's as the only add ons atm. 35 psi in tyres.

Issue 1: I know I have the dreaded driveline vibration from 90- Ill address this as per the existing thread.

Issue 2: Everytime I go bump, hit slightly rough road etc my steering wheel vibrates like crazy and then the rest of the car vibrates also, terrible like opposed to my old mans standard 2010 hilux. The steering wheel usually vibrates a tiny amount all the time as well. Bump steer is also present. The ute also throws me around when these things happen (bump steer, hit rough patches). The ute also always wants to pull left harshly, despite multiple wheel alignments- the ute just will not hold straight- the bridges are only 4000 kms old and I had a wheel alignment when they were put on. These issues are noticeable during all driving, but are severe over 80 ams/ hr. The tyres are balanced, 35 psi cold pressure. Im not travelling over 110 clicks at any stage either, or driving on dirt corrugated roads either- these occur on highways etc.

I wonder if my problems are; 1. poor tyre balances? 2. Poor wheel alignments? 3. Shocks/suspension is stuffed? 4. Bearings/ driveline out of alignment? 5. ALL OF THE ABOVE?

Im thinking of sending my truck to a 4x4 specialist suspension place for assessment- currently saving for an ultimate suspension lift- but with building a house and recently being really crook and work is a little light on atm- I just can't chuck one in just yet.

What do you guys think ? Cause I'm really effing cranky about it now....

Yep get it looked at ASAP.

Is it pulling from the front or crabbing from the rear?
Might be loose u bolts on the rear allowing the spring to shift under the bump pressure??

Bullbar on stock suspension would be the source of your problem I'd say ;) Stuffed shocks most probably
How many k's has the ute done and how many with the bar fitted?

You could try dropping a few PSI seeing as they are only 31" tryes, it's not going to solve your issues but may provide a little more comfort in the interim :)
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything important, it's too late to stop reading it.

Pulling from the front.

70 thou kms- all with the bar on it!

I'm also getting sick of feeling every tiny bump in the road and the wallowing in corners/ roundabouts also...

I'm tipping your stock suspension is to blame here. Crap out of the factory.
I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal labotomy!

the suspension shouldn't be causing the bump steer or the ridiculously harsh pulling to the left but... should it?

The harsh pulling left is a worry. Bump steer I thought was standard with standard suspension. Maybe something loose as well. :?

I figured that, but they are in the selling business & I'm sure if the sussy is crook they will try to sell something. $28 checks don't pay their bills

I am waiting for the day when I throw the Pedders in the bin & fit Ultimate

Mmmm. $28 to find 28 faults, 27 of which don't exist. :?

Welcome to the wonderful world of marketing, Pedders style. :?
Chris

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

front sussy replaced today- much much better. didn't realise how stuffed it was- now for the rear.
the bump steer is less, less pulling to the left, les throwing of the ute around, less nose dive and wallowing of the ute. There is less driveline shudder. The dreaded steering wheel shudder/ vibration on bumps/ rough road is still there but, less than before, but still there. Mits reckon its normal, i don't....

replaced the rear shocks today.... with ultimate shocks... wholly crap... completely different vehicle. It is now much more stable, no bump steer, much less vibrations, absorbs the bumps. I no longer feel like i'm going to be thrown off the road. Wow.

Ultimate suspension.... again... WOW!!!

unfortunately the steering wheel vibration on rough road still exists.... now I'm certain its a steering thing.

ill send it to a steering specialist and ask for a assessment....
