Creaking noise front end ??

Postby jack7 on Fri May 22, 2015 6:20 pm

have mn triton 2013 manual 5 months ago hit some big rocky washouts hard , had a wheel alignment next day as it was right out and also have a creaking,- knocking noise which can be felt under drivers feet and when braking at slow speed as front of car goes up and down. Replaced all shocks with new heavy duty ,much better handling but noise still exactly the same has been inspected by two mechanics who found nothing wrong ,car is fine to drive and noise has not changed since it happened I am going crazy as I have checked everything I can think of it is annoying as I know I have done something to it and want to fix it but need help to find problem any ideas ?? regards Jack

I had a noise/knock in my front end/suspension.
when I had the Ultimate kit installed they found the lower control arm bolts were a bit loose, might pay to check them

Common issue is the lower control arm. Did my head in for ages and even had a mechanic check it out also.
Turns out one of the lower control arm bolts needed a quarter extra turn.
Never heard the noise since. Get a big breaker arm and make sure they are all done up TIGHT.

Loose bash plate bolts or the centre brackets fatigue cracking? When my TJM bash plate bolts are loose the plates slip and clunk against one another when cornering. This can be felt through the floor and steering. Nip them up and the clunk disappears.

You have probably done your bushes in the control arms? Also check the top hat for your strut that bush can also go in a big hit

Do you live close by another member that could possibly give another opinion. May sound silly but the noise could be coming from elsewhere but you've fixated on it being up front. Just a thought

If you have had a wheel alignment done recently, there's a chance the lower control arm adjuster bolts need to re-tightened. It's also common with upper control arm bolts after a suspension kit is fitted. They loosen up as the suspension settles.

Still trying to sort this rattle any ideas be great car drives fine and wheel alignment good just constantly annoyed by a light rattling during all normal driving and can be felt as a click during starting forward and reversing this started about 2 years ago after a big hit through a washout which put the wheel alignment right out had it aligned and now drives well apart from rattley front end which 4 separate mechanics can't find it is obvious to me is I felt it immediately after the hit and ever since have fitted new steering rack ,shocks, upper and lower ball joints tightened every bolt possible and driven with bash plates and sway at off checked brake calipers and drive shafts any suggestions be greatly appreciated. Thanks
