Do you mean the Dobinson's kit referenced at the start of the thread? I doubt you'll see Subi coming back with an answer mate, that post is years old.

Hi all, I'm planning in changing out my rear shocks this weekend (thanks ultimate for the fast response). Is there anything I should know specifically for them or is it fairly straight forward?

Changing out? Do you mean "changing" or "replacing"?

I thought the instructions earlier in this thread were fairly complete, but no, it's very simple.

Hi NFT5, I mean replacing with the same type. The instructions at the beginning really gloss over the shocks, so I cant see it being hard. Just covering my bases.

It's just two nuts per shock. Just be careful not to overtighten the nut when it reaches the end of the thread. ;)

Finished the rear lift this morning, sooo easy. Mind you would have been easier with two people.

Started off with - 585 guard to center hub
After Lift - 640 both sides no load in tray and still waiting for canopy to go on next week.

Anyone got any tips for removing the swaybar link? We have tried with an air wrench and still won't come off....

Lots of WD40.

Did you use the Allen Key in the end to hold the thread while you undo the nut?

Yeah we tried both ideas in the end we used the 5ft Jack handle as a breaker bar. All done now and it looks sweet!

Hi chaps, so doing my suspension swap one of these upcoming weekends. Just wondering, can you use all the old bolts or do you need to swop any them out for new? :?: Thought that some of the higher torque bolts might need replacing as standard procedure.

Thanks in advance.

Bolts shouldn't be an issue, just be sure to give them a decent clean and look them over. If they all look good then carry on.

Also, depending on the kit you get you will probably get a bunch of new bolts for certain things anyway!!

These links still work, and show a little bit of detail in the pics, plus some instructions;

Good news is that Photobucket have relaxed their restrictions a bit and the pictures are once again visible.

Postby dwhylan on Mon May 10, 2021 11:50 am

Will this method for front shock changes work on an ML Triton?

Don't think so, we have tighter spaces and the upper control arm.

From memory, I think I kept the lower wishbone, drive shaft and hub intact during changeover.

Pretty sure someone did a series on the process on this site.

I did mine the other week. Is it s shock or strut? i dont know but you get the idea...

Something along the lines of

put side of car you need to remove on stands
Removed wheel
Put jack under lower control arm to prevent it from dropping
Undo brake line from uca
loosen nuts holding uca to strut mount
loosen 3 top strut nuts
loosen bottom strut nut
undo 3 nuts holding uca ball joint
remove bottom strut bolt
slowly lower jack checking cv and brake line
remove uca
remove strut*

* if lifting the car or have high spring rate, prepare for swear words. You will need to compress the spring to be able to align the bottom bolt back up after putting the new strut in. Spring compressors barely compress high rate springs. Make sure you have a long pipe or second person to help lower the lower control arm to slide the new shock in and align bolt.

Yeah. Why am I the only one here who's capable of doing a search?
