Squeaking rears ?? is there a cure ??

My ultimates still aren't squeaking ;)

Giving them a good cleanout after a trip definitely helps reduce the occurrence I found with my stock ones.
I'm not so good with the advice  ... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment???

Your ultimates are still brand new, mine squeak after I clean underneath, I just pretend that I am driving in a rainforest all the time, it helps, bellbirds.... :)

I have found this entire thread very interesting - I've owned a lot of leaf sprung vehicles and prior to getting the ML, I've NEVER had a squeaky leaf spring, not even on 30yo Falcons (Mcpherson struts are a whole other thread subject where Ford is concerned)... My MK leafs never squeaked, nor did the Ironman replacements...

So, what has changed leading up to the last 3 years (since I got my ML) to bring upon us this conundrum...???

 funny you should say that, I thought the bellbirds in the first of the Hobbit trip vids (can't remember the name) were the squeaking springs to start with...

I recently cured a squeak in my ML's rear suspension. The mounts are ok, no noise at all. The squeak sounded like the tray was loose, a random, annoying high pitched metallic sound. Found that it was the 'U' bracket that acts as a guide (?) around the leaf springs. It sits between the axle and the mount. Gave it a spray with some dry lube and the noise has disappeared. Not a sound from the rear of the car.

I recently complained at my Mits service and they have fitted some plates under there... So far so good. Might try putting a photo up

spoke to Mitsu service about this the other day and asked if they had a fix on the MN (as far as I remembre the recall was only ML) and he said there is a fix but it doesn't last long. Said it is a warranty repair (so it should be) and they would do it as often as needed. But did say that mitsubishi was working on a more permanent solution, but didn't know when it would be ready or what it involved.

Have you given it a good pressure wash underneath since last weekends trip. You may still have some dirt between springs causing the squark to be worse than normal.
otherwise, just turn the radio up a bit more like most of us do ;)

Probably only works on the trucks with the small engines SEJ. The ML's have a lasting squeak. :D :D :D

You can add this to your list of regular service activities to stop the squeaking.

Jack up the rear of the vehicle and place some axle stands on the chassis rails to allow the suspension to droop.

Get a high pressure cleaner to wash out any dirt/sand/mud from between the leaves and allow it to dry.

Then get yourself some Moly Chain Lube (the type used on dirt bike chains) and spray/inject between the leaves. The benefit of a Moly based Lube is that it resists dirt unlike Lanolin/WD40, which will help stop the problem from coming back in the short term but like all things will require re-application in the future.

Best of luck,

Mimmo

Well The Triton has been back for the fourth time to fix the squeaking rears. New shackles and bushes fitted, took them two days. Triton back on the road and guess what after two weeks they are squeaking again, same as before. I now don't believe that they will ever have a fix for this fault so the only solution is aftermarket springs or turn up the radio.

Turn up the radio. A month after new (aftermarket) springs and new bushes it was back again, this time from the other side. Meknic reckons it's the U shaped retainer on the spring and bent it out a bit. Went away for a while....

Am I the only one who was game enough to spend $10 at supercheap to buy a can of Lanox (from the makers of Inox) to stop my squeaking Ultimate Suspension springs. Two months now of bliss, oh well my secret that I will not share with anyone suppose. :D
