Yeah was a warranty job. I complained about it at the service and when I picked it up they had already put the kit on order.

I tried the Lanolin spray - it only worked for a month or two. I had the silencer kit fitted under warranty and its been silent for over a year.

Drove over bumpy vacant lot the other day used as a parking lot. Guy said nice truck but whats that noise. I said its a mitzi mate :D . The shiny MY15 Truck sounded like it was 100 years old with the creaking from the leaf springs. Will ask about kit next service. Tried everything. Packed some grease around the shakles wonder how long that will last.

steveo wrote:I brought up the squeaking rear end at my last service (30k) and when I picked it up they said they had ordered a "Spring Silencer Kit". Took it back a few weeks later and they fitted what looks like a white plastic type material between the springs and the brackets holding it together. Didn't look like much but so far no squeaks

Warranty fix....! The "white plastic type material" is Teflon. The only thing -slipperier- than it, are two melting icecubes in contact with each other. .... ;)

I have squeaky noise very loud and very sharp coming from rear end but only first thing in the morn when backing out the driveway for the last month, after that all o/k.

I had brakes re-done new front disc s and only adjustment on drum rears, and the noise started almost immediately, took it back for re-inspection on the rears, but to no avail, I did notice they flushed the rears with some sort of solvent and with reasonable pressure. Wonder if the flat springs got a squirt as well both sides originally and that is my problems, what do you guys recommend I spray the flat springs with?

I'm wondering if you have a brake shoe binding in reverse from having the handbrake on and its then coming loose once you start moving forward?

The springs will make more of an oscillating noise in that they'll be connected to you hitting undulations.

The springs you can spray will all sorts of stuff. A lot of guys use lanotec. I've had good results from chain oil and other lubricants which claim that they have adhesion qualities.

So the $64 question ML2008 is, just -what- is it, that's making your squeak....? ie, Springs or Rear Brakes....? If -they- flushed with some sort of solvent was that because of leaking brake fluid....??? As far as the leaf springs go, there is a -warranty- fix kit available via your local Stealer, see the above Posts for more info about this. As far as what to -spray- them with there is a spray can product called LanoTec-HD available at SoupyCheep for a few bucks which will not only lubricate your springs but waterproof them as well. Another thought is a teflon based spray on chain lube as used on motorbike drive chains, also available from the same place. .... ;)

I've always wondered why Teflon strips haven't been used between the leaves?

Teflon will be destroyed crushed by the weight of the vehicle.

Not the industrial stuff ag111. Its so tuff they slide heavy steelwork over it.

Years ago guys used scraps from coal bunker linings to make knife handles, the Teflon presented a decent challenge for cutting and shaping.

Most of the time the squeaks are not from the leaves sliding over each other but from getting out of alignment. A decent club hammer is the go - just line them up so they don't rub on the retainers each side. Quick squirt with your favourite lube and all will be good until the next time that you flex it up. ;)

Well that's given me a few items to go on for the weekend, handbrake is off when reversing but that doesn't mean the handbrake adjust might be too tight CD will check that for sure, didn't mention any brake fluid leaking and I check that regularly without any lose of fluid level in the master cylinder, will take off the back wheels and the hubs and check internally for anything untoward.

Will check alignment of flat springs with my professional local cure all (10lb hammer) NFTF

AOF, I just love going to the local autoparts shop, one day I will get booked for loitering there I am sure, so will get the lube stuff tomorrow and give it a whirl

Thanks guys and if all else fails I will utilise the free silencing kit from the stealers.

Chain oil sticks well. Really any lubricant will quiet it down - even water but obviously that dries too quick.
