front lift and improved dampening

front lift and improved dampening

Postby Ynot on Mon Jun 14, 2010 6:26 am

I have an ML Triton single cab diesel auto which I bought in 2008. I had TJM XGS suspension fitted all round with heavy duty springs and shocks fitted to the front to handle the additional weight of bullbar and winch when I purchased it.
When I am using it in severe conditions such as on a trip across the Anne Beadell Hwy and CSR I find the front end very soft and gives a ride a bit like a pogo stick. The shocks also fade on the corrugations despite driving slowly. The front end sits much lower than the back giving it a very nose down look and with inadaquate ground clearance.
I wondered if anyone could suggest a good suspension set up for outback touring or improvements I could make and also if any one could recommend a suspension specialist familiar with Tritons in Northern Vic.
Cheers
Tony

Try talking to Ultimate, they seem to be very clued on to what they need to achieve. A few of the guys here swear by them and their service is excellent.
I'm not so good with the advice  ... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment???

Whack some Snake racing 25mm coil spacers in the front, leveled out mine perfectly. What size tyres you running? I put 265/75/16s on mine and it improved handling and ride

Gday Skip. I am running 235/85/16 Goodyear MTR's which should be around the same diameter as your 265/75/16.
Did you think I would have to have the camber angles adjusted using the Snake Racing spacers with the TJM springs I have on now?

front lift and improved dampening

Spacers are not recommended at all and their are plenty of threads here with the reasoning why not to in them.

Also they just mask an already existing problem in the actual strut performance, they will not cure any overheating or dampening problems and they just and cover up for the existing coils inherent problems.

Ynot, As Dazza said, heaps of reasons why not to install spacers...... definitely give the guys at ultimate suspension a ring, they know thier stuff and are a forum sponsor aswell. ;)

How has the Triton handle outback touring apart from the suspension, any other probs or all good so far??? Would be the ultimate test for a truck out on those tracks i would have thought ;)
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything important, it's too late to stop reading it.

To answer your question yes a wheel alignment would be necessary as with most suspension mods on IFS vehicles.

I havent had any probs with mine 80,000kms on the clock

Thanks Al Coholic,I have got in touch with ultimate suspension today and they have asured me they can improve the handling and ride.
Apart from suspension and ground clearance issues it handled out back touring ok. Overheating is also a problem and I find that I have to run without the air cond on or stop to lower temperature. My local Mitsubishi dealer tell me that the problem is because of bull bar, winch and driving lights obstructing air flow and that any engine problems as a result of overheating wont be covered by warranty. I am not sure what to do about the overheating and find it hard to believe that these accessories would cause it to overheat.
Cheers.

Ynot, have a look at this thread about overheating. Might help.

I have bullbar, big lights and have had no overheating at all, even in mid summer.

hey ynot,
i`ve had probelms with mine too , but i do a fair bit of grass work , it looks great from the outside but like all cars gets that build up of seed between the aircon rad and water rad, had to pull mine out twice now even when running shade cloth ,. radiator is only about 12mm thick and easily clogged also easily cleaned :D ,forgot to take the shade cloth off once after leaving the paddock ,well it didn`t like that

I have a 2013 dual cab GLX and wondered if anyone has fitted the TJM XGS Suspension in the last couple of years ? All the replies here are from 2010 and wanted something more recent.

Wolves1, did you read the first post in this thread? That, and the fact that no-one seems to be using it doesn't tell you something?

Now I'm not bagging the product and unpopular doesn't necessarily mean bad, but it is usually a good indicator. We have couple of forum sponsors who specialise in suspensions. Maybe have a talk to them?
