no alloy wheels... I can but, they are 16" not that should make diff.

I suspect its something other than wheel/tyres.

I spent a long time making sure my rims where centred on the studs as I did them up.
Slowly hand tightening the nuts on the studs one by one till there was no more slack before I did them up by hand with the brace.
didnt just run them up with the rattle gun like the tyre mobs do.
Prob solved.
Not entirely convinced but it solved the issue at the time.
running after market rims now so cant check

Happens to my 2012 MN and the only thing I have ever changed is to 265/75 16 tyres.

Didn't happen straight away either, maybe a couple of months after they were fitted.

I'm getting some new tyres in a couple of weeks so will try the above mentioned and hopefully it is just rim and tyre.

that's all I really have done. I am at a loss why changing the tyres would do this. With OEM tyres no vibration - Strange.

Bigger tyres will introduce more mass and dimension to amplify any vibrations. Centering non standard rims will be more critical. Your tyres can start off OK but as they wear in they can go out of wack.

As I probably mentioned on a previous occasion, I had a tyre that balanced OK on the machine years ago but I got a vibration on the car. In the end the tyre jock decided to run the rim nude on balancer and he finally isolated the problem to the rim being out. From memory the spare rim was used with the new tyre and no more vibration.

Then other are our crappy roads! You can have virtually no vibration on a good stretch of hot mix and then think the car is about to fall apart on another. Just about need a kidney belt on the Princes Hwy between Sale and Bairnsdale! This bit of road has everything in the door pockets, etc vibrating.
Don't let the b'strds get you down!!

Still not convinced its tyres, so climbed under ute and checked what I could... What I did not is that the tail shaft moves up and down approx. 5mm (not so much side ways) at the gearbox and when I do push it up and down I can hear a clunk, sort of metal on metal...

Wondering - is that much movement normal?

The transfer case / 4x4 shaft doesn't move at all. I am quite mechanically minded but have to admit not when it comes to tail shaft movement. Uni joints seem fine with no movement.

Is the gearbox out put shaft bearing a common failure?

As an update - I have had my 1 piece tail shaft serviced and balanced, tyre balanced twice again (manually and via computer) and still have vibration. Only thing I haven't done is a wheel alignment. The reason I am considering this is a friend had his Ranger lifted and it had a vibration issue. He did everything possible to stop the vibration all it did was reduce it not eliminated it... He was advised to get a wheel alignment (he did that when it was lifted) so as advised he did.... Presto no vibration.

I have nothing left to do apart from that.
