Suspension lift....shudder

Caravan cured my shudder.........not the cheapest option though.

Seriously.....the van settled the rear suspension on a big trip and it pretty much disappeared.
Before you go swapping tail shafts......try the spacer. ;)

Hi I'm not really interested in lifting the vehicle ,but would like to know whats needs to be done to suspension to still keep it level without sagging when I'm carrying a bit of load in the tray of my MY15 dual cab.

Contact a reputable suspension shop and discuss your needs. Ultimate Suspension in NSW is always highly recommended.
Reset springs, add a spring leaf, new rear leaf springs, Iron man helper "bars" are a couple of options.

Speak to ultimate......I'm pretty sure they have a fitter in melb.
If my memory serves me correct they are out north/north west somewhere..........Gisborne maybe?
Someone else will chime in with an exact location.......maybe.

They look much the same either way, Edd. The mountings are just slightly off centre so flipping just moves the bearing down a few mm.

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

Just flipped my cousins on the weekend but didn't take any pics. I can take a pic of mine tomorrow for you but as 5th said it pretty much just looks the same, upside down. You will probably need to undo your park brake cable to spin it though. Bolt right next to the center bearing. Whole job 10min. 8-)

Fitted some 2" lift King Springs to the rear of my triton on the weekend. Interestingly they came with castor wedges as part of the leaf, worth checking if you're getting the shudder and didn't fit them yourself that the installer got the springs the right way round.

The shudder on my ML GLXR was minor without the tailshaft bearing flipped so I filled the tray with everything heavy I could find in the garage and left it overnight. Next morning emptied the tray and no shudder present. Total lift is still mesured above 2 inches from the sagged stock springs.

Has anyone had the "shudder" before a suspension lift has been fitted? Mines 4000ks old stock as a rock and it developed a shudder between 1st & 2nd at 2000ks and more noticeable when closer to empty ??

I just come in to ask if anyone else has the shudder with stock lift, apparently I'm not alone.

Since fitting a tray which is lighter than the tub the suspension has come up around 5 mm and it shudders a fair bit off the mark unless I baby it off the line so I'm worried how bad it will get if I go and lift it 50 mm from where it is.

Might have to book it into Mitsi and see what they can come up with, I wonder if they have a fix for it?

Just sorted my shudder 100% or so I thought!!
Centre bearing modified to almost sit on crossmember
Driveshaft spacer 12mm
Dropped G-box crossmember, removed big washers from between crossmember and chasis and then placed the washers in between the crossmember and the gearbox

Absolutely beautiful no shudder in 2wd
Select 4wd and take off and the gearstick shakes side to side like crazy..
Did I raise the G-box too high??

So lunny and i did some measureing the other night. Looks like a mn auto one piece shaft is about 40-50mm shorter. Didnt look to far into it but it may be possible to use a mn auto shaft with a 50mm space. Gonna have long bolts to hold in spacer tho

Spoke to Ken at Ultimate Suspension two weeks ago. Said they they have developed their own one piece tail shaft conversion with slip yoke that completely fixs shudder issue. Mine isn't too bad on road but gets worse in low range when off camber. The centre tail shift keeps clipping the corner of my long range tank. Considering swapping to one piece in future. Anyone had any issues with a tailshaft conversion?

That's pretty expensive, Fourbies did my 2"lift and fitted a one piece tail shaft and absolutely no shudder and still going good two years on. Cost on tail shaft was I think $300 or $350 I am happy with mine. :D

For a straight cut and shut through a tailshaft specialist, the cost is normally around $300-360.00 The problem with Triton tailshafts is the universal joints flog out very quickly (and they aren't cheap). To avoid any issues, all of the shafts we get made come with new UNIs.

We have started getting one piece shafts made up through a local specialists. If we modify the original shaft on the vehicle, the cost is $400.00. For an exchange shaft (straight swap over), the cost is $560.00. We have invested in getting a few shafts made up so they are on the shelf. This will help guys who aren't local to us or a reputable prop shaft specialists.

Has anyone with one of these one piece tail shaft conversions had any issues with it fouling on the centre bearing mount or cross member? Spoke to Driveline Services in Melb. They said it would foul up when the vehicle is really articulated.

Doesn't hit mate, mines flexed enough to have cabin dents and bounced around up dunes and hasn't touched.
