Suspension lift....shudder

What are the problems with going straight to a one piece tail shaft (cost, trouble sourcing etc)? That seems to be the main factor causing the shudder. I am thinking out loud without having done any research. Please bear with my stupid questions.
I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal labotomy!

Hey Rick seems that you and GLX R are both running ironman suspension packages. Would be interesting to find out if you both have the same package or are the components diff in some way, eg springs, shocks etc.

Greedy, thats not a stupid question, the auto tri runs a one piece tail shaft so it is more food for thought! The thread has bought some very interseting comments from members who are experiencing this vibe after suspension mods, unfortunately there are a lot more members who haven't commented thus far, but in the light of this members like GLX R who have worked on a fix and are open to sharing their experiences will benefit all and sundry. I am sure he will make the fix available to all and hence we all will come out smilin':)

hey greedy it would be a good idea about going to a 1 piece tailshaft except of 1 small problem with the centre bearing cross member being in the way, i'm guessing the chassis may be different between manual and autos. Hiluxs have 2 piece tailshafts but the also have a slip joint in the rear tailsahft not like tritons. Cheers

Things have gone very quiet on this issue, still in contact with GLX-R and his progress with the castor wedges, me thinks he has nearly got it....8-)

Hey there you right wallace i've nearly fixed my vibrations just want to lift my front end up a little as it dropped 20mm with the winch and bar and still chasing down a gearbox crossmember.
At the moment there is a slight vibration on take off but only lasts about a second then it's fine. Anyway will keep you all posted once i have finished it.
Cheers

GLX-R has been working on a fix for his ironman and Buzzy has Dobi suspension. The fix for one might not necessarily work for the other. I am sure that the required info will come to light when available....8-)

Ive just had Aussie Super Springs put on the back of mine, there suppose to be load levelling springs however they have lifted the back 70 mm
I get a slight shudder at take off but not too bad.
I haven't driven under load yet to see what there like (Thats tomorrow - Off to Bemm) So I'll see how they go.

OK after much deliberation I decided to go with the Dobinson suspension kit. Very happy with the outcome and the lift from centre of front hub and rear axle are as follows. Front 550mm and rear 640mm and that is with all the bar work etc. I have fitted 3 degree wedges, spaced the gearbox crossmember mount up 6mm, rotated the centre bearing but have made a 1.75mm shim for this. Shudder not really noticeable but the tailshaft spacer will see to this. The centre bearing is under a massive amount of stress at rest and the spacer should help alieviate this. This is also unweighted and the test will be when I hook up one and a half ton of boat and trailer..................

Wallace, What front springs did you go for? I'm getting one of these kits as soon as he can get hold of more tailshaft spacers. GLXRSilver did warn me that their springs can be prone to sag if a fair weight (bullbar, winch and dual batteries) is put on them. I spoke to the fella (whose name eludes me at the moment) at Dobinsons who said they had developed a heavier spring to cope with this problem. Part number is C43-190. Lighter spring number is C43-188.
I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal labotomy!

Hey all,
Thought I'd add my experience .... I've just fitted 2 inch Snake Racing spacer blocks to the front struts, 75mm Snake Racing spring hangers and Rancho RS9000Xl rear shocks to my turbo diesel GLXR and I developed the dreaded shudder!! After rotating the centre bearing housing the shudder is all but gone.

We need to find out what the material is and make a set of springs out of that ..... cause obviously it can handle a fair loading !!!!
I respectfully offer my services for the examination & testing of said material ........ you know to take one for the boys! :D
