I would never advise changing the OEM for a different filter under any circumstances while you have warranty, it could put you in a bad situation should an injector tip fail and burn a hole though a piston etc.

For a remotely located secondary filtration, an electric fuel pump can be used at the tank end to compensate for the extra lift/head. This also has many other advantages, especially with tuned vehicles.

Baldwin Daul 65 compact series with 2um element ptno 66* . 8-) Way smaller and way cheaper than the Racor unit. ;)

I have run one my MN for over 70k with no issues what so ever. I just change the element every 15k or after 7k before embarking on a long trip. Spare elements are cartridge type and are small enough to carry spares in the glove box. 8-)

Yup, that's him, only fit it after the factory filter for 2um filtration. Why they recommend tank side has got me, is a bloody disaster in most cases. Set up as a secondary unit, it will catch the smaller particles and 100% of the water that sneaks though the primary. 8-)

So if I were to run say 800 of efi hose after the factory filter I'd get away with it without straining the pump?

Tony, how far from the primary filter could this filter be mounted without straining the pump? i have a dual battery system on the passenger side and have no chance of fitting it next to the primary filter.

I've never put it to a test nor actually worked it out with maths (I'm too lazy) , but remember, a pump lifting fluid is roughly 2.5 times the calculated head with friction factored in. (so the pump can roughly push 2.5X further than it can lift at the same efficiency)

I'd say going any further than say 500mm at a wild guess could make it throw a fuel light. It'll probably think the fuel is frozen.

You can fit a hi-flow electric fuel pump at the tank end to overcome lift and friction and then sky is the limit with where the secondary filtration goes.

I also think there is a small chance the Baldwin Compact Dual filter may squeeze in below the OEM filter and dual battery. Be worth a look. It may be a nuisance to service in the said location and be a messy job as have to come in from underneath.

Does anyone have or know where to get the exact micron rating of the genuine fuel filter for the MN tritons. I know a few people have stated that it is 10 micron but is this 100% true? Where did they get this info? The dealer I asked say they can't help with this info

Would anyone know where the best place is to purchase this Baldwin Dahl 65 compact series filter with 2um element ptno 66*? We have just bought a new diesel GLX dual cab and I want to get one of these as a secondary filter ASAP. I can't seem to find anyone selling them on the net. Thanks for any help you can give.

I think 180 ish for the unit and 20 for
A Filter.... So depending on how much a carton is and how many in a carton I might be getting a carton of filters.... Could work out cheaper in tha long run.

I fitted a extra pump at the filter end and a 2micron filter after the factory filter.
Tell you what the lift pump gave the fuelling system a definite lift in delivery.
Should put some pics up

Mounted mine today. Photo below.

Racor mounted.jpg

Instructions said to use liquid thread sealant so I used some permatex stuff. I used tape on the two blanks but made sure there was none too close to the fuel end.

The thread seems to be a tapered thread and the elbows get tight quite early rather than near the end. They're in pretty tight but I would have liked them tighter. Will be interested to see how they hold up. I'm kind of out of options if they don't work. Can't cut the thread shorter due to the taper. Can't get another 180 degrees out of them either.
