I've fitted a water trap / 2nd filter to my triton also when I bought it. But mine is in the engine bay , very worthwhile doing It!

I put a 2 micron unit after the factory filter. There are a few of us here that have done the same thing. ;)

There are other threads somewhere on this subject... If you search, you will find. ;)

The factory unit does not cover the injectors in terms of micron filtration. This is the reason why I went post factory. The factory already has a water sensor, so going post would hopefully trap the rest prior to engine failure?

//I have been through 3 RACOR filters already in 30K.... (to one factory filter)
They block faster than anticipated. :| One crap tank of diesel and it is all over... Filter is a lot cheaper than a engine. :D

sure:

Unit
Barbs
Filters

Not at all cheap.

You will need some hose and small clamps too. Not to mention build a bracket like referenced below in a image...
Used fuel injection hose on mine, you will only need 250mm of it if located like mine within earshot of stock unit. ;)

Like Geek I have done exactly the same... Same filter and even copied the bracket.

I've had mine in for about 10k and so far so good haven't had to replace my filters yet, though the little flow meter gauge is nearly in the red so probably another 5k and will change. Factory filter has never been changed but will be getting done very soon when it goes in for it's 30k service. ;)

A lot cheaper online from the USA, I got one filter assembly and 5 replacement filters for about $250 including postage. The killer is the postage so make sure you grab a few people to share the cost and do one big order. 8-)

Im pretty sure the factory filter is 10 microns... so IMO an 18 micron filter would be better off before the
10 micron to capture most of the 'bigger' particals first.....but thats just me ;)

Geek / Tony.

Is there any limit to how far I can place one of these R45s racor units away from the factory filter without placing too much strain on the pump?

Im thinking its ok for a fair distance, but strange things happen with increased load...

Im running seriously low on under bonnet space, and Im coming up with all weird and stupid ideas. The thing is HUGE!

Actually contemplated tubbing a recess into the firewall to fit the filter  Ain't happening though

Was thinking pump side if possible Pete.

Factory 15µm? > 2µm > pump...

Where did you end up throwing yours?

I think after the standard filter is the go. 10 micron then 2 micron.

Throws this out there - is there an interum people could use like replacing the OEM 10um with a 5um. Will void warranty and would require some idea on the part number. But just an idea and agreed it still doesn't protect the injectors just reduces the risk.
