It would be fitting to mention slandering a brand product on a public forum can run into legal ramifications so your best bet will be wait for a reply from the seller before going nuke on a public forum. Will save admin here a bit of work in the long run too I'd imagine ;)

Thanks for that advice Tony, pics have been sent to the supplier, obviously this has not happened before and not all or any other filters may have issues. Being the weekend, and often the only time we have time to work on our rigs, my only intention was to jump in asap and share my experience to prevent any one needlessly creating an issue for themselves.

The reference is a clever double entendre to this:

Nothing like a little delay in responses. But then, for some reason, I missed this whole exchange and am only just catching up, too. jrs184, please don't delete posts that have been responded to. It makes the thread quite disjointed. What's said is said, deleting your post doesn't unsay it.

Anyway, enough of that. It's too late for me to be bothered going back and cleaning up. This is a thread in a technical section so, back on topic, please gents.

It's really easy to install and is well made, only issue I had was needing an additional screw and washers to put the earth wire back onto the bracket as well as drilling the joke for the screw.
Also tell them if you are putting it pre or post factory filter so they can supply the correct size hose and barbs.

Cut open my old fuel filter 15000km. Cleaned it in petrol. Could not believe all the dirt and crap. I was amazed at the sand like grit that came out. :o

Filter paper was of excellent quality. Don't think any of the grit would get past it. It was saturated in dirt thou so Fuel filter change every service for me.... :)

Next time replacement I will run a Litre of diesel through it to see if ANY of the dirt passes through. If anyone is keen and can post the results that would be good.

Hi guys,
Has anyone one of you made a heat sheild for the secondary filter? I have mounted my filter/separator to the firewall and have noticed that it gets a lot warmer than the factory filter. I have read somewhere that warm diesel can cause damage to the high pressure pump and injectors, now i dont know how tru that is but i sure dont want to find out.

Just changed mine the other day and after nearly 40000ks it was still nice and clean. I have a secondary one too, but didn't bother to change that as the first one was clean enough I could have left it another twenty or so thou. I mainly try to use Caltex fuel and find I get best economy with that too. :D

Mine looked clean when i removed it until I washed it in a Litre of petrol. Then a different story.
.
The human hair is 100 microns. Mitsi filter is 10 Microns, Mitsi does not deem a secondary necessary. Some set ups can restrict flow. Your Secondary most likely 2 microns. The smaller microns is what damages injectors.

My truck runs better on Caltex despite most favoring BP, I sometimes us a cheap local independent, But find start up and fuel economy suffers slightly and also takes longer to fill with the foam. The better quality control and additives is probably worth the extra $10 bucks a fill at Caltex.

Give your removed filter a good sniff. If you smell a hint of rotten egg. U have diesel bug in your tank.

Noticed my truck wasn't running as well as it should the last few days...
Secondary filter had blocked up again... this one has lasted about 40k kms so can't really complain.

I want to get a secondary diesel filter for my Triton, after reading this thread, is the general consensus to get a 2 micron post-filter, between engine and stock filter?

Would a pre filter at 30 micron do the job just as well?

Just worried about warranty as the ute is only a year old and I guess they can't complain about a pre filter that doesn't impact the factory system at all...

I found this from Western Filters, any good?

Cheers guys.

Those filters seem popular.
Towards the bottom discusses pros and cons of both.

Either is better than none. Perhaps ask your dealer how they feel about secondary filters?
Some shops/blogs/Facebook pages (of shops) recommend a pre filter yet others a secondary.

You can always change filter size and swap location at a later date.

No need for discussion... Go the secondary 2um filtration all the way! ;)

This forum suffers from cognitive dissonance, here 2 micron secondary filters are the position and filter size of choice. Other qualified people prefer a pre filter. A 20 or 30 micron pre filter will still collect a percentage of the finer particles.

Best for one person is not always the best for another. YMMV

When the dealer says not to fit a secondary filter that is good enough for me. They are the ones I am going to have to argue with for warranty claims.

The information and proof is all out there and in this thread... If you study it... The best option for anyone with a high pressure common rail diesel is to go the 2um secondary. ;)

I can't believe some are still questioning it... Its a no brainer! :|
