This is something I'd be interested in learning to do. With the aid of a step by step guide with pics. Hint hint.... anyone?

I'm not sure I'd be letting it go 30,000 any more but it kind of depends what your exposure might be to crap fuel as well. If you were doing a lot of outback touring for example you might be changing them a lot more often.

Ok thanks I might stick with about 10,000 and monitor the condition of the filter .

I posted somewhere the other day in regards to a filter supplier in Sydney with low costs for replacements. Picked up today 2 x new fuel filters and 2 oil filters
Fuel filter @ $23.10 each and a massive saving on OEM.
These are produced by a company called Sakura and on the filter is stamped "made in Indonesia".
Don't need to replace as yet but at least I now have spares

There were some posts ages ago from someone who was saying that sakura make a decent oil filter so hopefully these are also good quality.

Anyone recommend a good wrench to get these buggers off the housing. I got a rubber strap style one which slid all over the place until the strap broke. Surely theres a better way. I ended up puncturing the old filter with a big screw driver but it was still well tight (the screwdriver shaft was bent over to the point I was worried the driver would break) and applied blue face tension. I finally got it off to discover I'd ruined the housing by hitting the center standpipe with the screwdriver and shearing part of the thread. Bugger! $147 for a new housing from Mitsi. Maybe I was unlucky and got one that was done up by Spartacus with a 6 ft spanner? Whats everyone else using?

Cheers.

Drain it first then remove both fuel lines, Plug them to avoid foreign object entry, unbolt the housing then turn the housing upside down on the mounting bolts, you should then be able to grip the filter and unscrew, I had to use multi grips to undo my last one though

Vice and a pipe wrench for my last one. I don't understand why they always do them up so tight

Even the box says contact plus 3/4 of a turn. Not contact then break out the multi grips.

ok so in this picky i placed here remove the two fuel hose( the yellow marker) then plug with something to keep clean

then undo the plug marked in BLUE

then undo the two nuts marked in RED

then the filter assy lifts out from where it is then you undo the bottom of the filter there is a plastic white plug that has a wire hanging out from it this is reused on new filter

the filter is screwed on to the ally housing
so lefty lucy righty tighty
undo with a plumbers wrench (Stilsons) while holding the ally housing in a vise

easy as then reassemble in reverse

make sure you dont over tighten the plastic plug on bottom of the filter just nip it up dont swing on it or you will stirp it

put back in car attack hose to correct pipes

plug back in the electric conecctor

then prime the system by pushing on the the top plunger until it becomes firm will take about a 12 or so pumps

start car and check for leaks

no leaks all done

if leaks find and fix

I think you're supposed to lubricate the rubber seal as well if memory serves? It might even be printed on the side of the genuine Mitsubishi filters if I recall correctly?

Sakura are one of the best filter manufacturers in the world.
Most Japanese & Korean vehicle OEM Filters are made by Sakura and rebranded for the Manufacturer. The OEM filters in you Mitsy are more that likely made by Sakura.
