Oil seeping from intercooler hose?

Postby 1tuff_triton on Sat Jun 01, 2013 1:25 pm

I have searched the forums but can't really find anything that can help. I noticed yesterday on the passenger side oil seeping from the intercooler hose. I removed the grill from the passenger side and cleaned it up and tightened up the clamp that wasn't very tight. I'm not very mechanical so that probably the best description of the location I can work out. I couldn't see any splits or tears I. The hose.

From reading I understand that I will get oil in the intercooler. I have read to the extent that this could be a blown seal in the turbo but seeing I still have full power and no smoke I'm guessing ( hoping) its more to do with the carbon issues.

My question really what do I do next? I'm guessing catch can and egr blank but what else should I be looking at?

The amount of oil wasn't that much. It wasn't dripping onto my driveway but there was a bit there. Obviously enough to raise concern.

Thanks in advance

Some have removed their intercoolers and cleaned the oil out so I suppose that's one option.

How big of a job is it to remove the intercooler?

It's not a hard job. Just make sure you dry it completely before reinstalling. I used a heat gun for about 10 mins

When my turbo blew at 60000km (MNTriton), it didn't blow any smoke or use noticeable oil but I had an oil leak from the throttle body that made it's way down to the front diff!

What I did notice was fuel economy suffered significantly.

All fixed under warrenty (new turbo) no questions asked.

Now with the new turbo I use a catch can. EGR is connected. Have had the catch can on for 20000km. Barely any oil has been collected in it. Car is running perfectly. At the 90000km service I will see what the intake manifold looks like oil/carbon build up wise.
