Yeah I am however they did all the R&D on their own Triton, they were cheap to get the product out there.
Like I said I'm sure others will chime in and get you some realistic feedback, if they don't well go buy a cheap chip and see how it goes.
I hope it all goes well for you.
I'm just attempting to give my opinion that's all.

BTW I have driven said 8spd dualcab and it does rather go alright for now

Its a long bow to suggest that just because some of the "chips" are less expensive they automatically are not designed and tested. The Euro and UK sourced ones come from markets where diesel use is much more mature than here. With higher turnover and competition the customers are lucky buggers.

A lot of course has to do with what you've got to play with; the triton diesel is a sludge pump compared to my old 2003 Vito or really impressive Pug 307.

Accepting what it is...I love my truck. With some more tweaks I'll love it more.

Mate I've moved your post onto the end of this thread as it looked to be the best one. The area you originally posted belongs to a forum sponsor so we couldn't have it sitting in there. As you will see from this thread and others if you want to look this sort of discussion has been a continuing thing for a long time and there will continue to be opposing views from right across the spectrum.

If you want better information you're really going to have to narrow the field down a bit. There would have to be maybe a dozen different chips and stuff (or more, who can keep up?) now and they would all have their pros and cons and until you get something that's been used by a lot of people the data you'll get back won't be a great guide anyway.

Have a read of this thread and browse around for some others (they're out there) and see what you think and then come back here with any follow ups.

Just because it is from Germany doesn't mean/guarantee it is any good.

Sold through German eBay company owned by people from Eastern Europe.

Cheaper Chips - Pros & Cons

I've seen results and data from a range of ECU upgrades from $100 ebay no name chips to $1500 remapped ECUs and they are all within spitting distance of each other in end result.

Same thing keep an eye on EGTs and go from there.

You have to drill into your dump pipe and fit a thermocouple and special gauge- if you search on thermocouple you should find the threads

I stopped using plx stuff a while ago however if you can buy a sensor it supports then yes, as above though will still need to tap into the dump or even better pre turbo

Looks like you need an extra adapter thing to translate the signal for the kiwi:

Re: any 1st hand experience of problems with sub $500 chips?

Postby imarr on Sun Dec 28, 2014 7:39 am

I have installed the Black Box Chip bought off Ebay for $140.00 and I must say it did make a difference. It definately assisted with the turbo lag and overall performance. As fo rthe long term effects, unknown. I also installed a 2.5 inch stainless system from the turbo back, also happy with the results.

AussieAnth wrote:I'm fairly well read up on discussions of the cheaper performance chips, ie: the sub $500 chips that plug into the common rail sensor & affect injector pressure. Loads of skepticism about long term damage, stories of "a mate" and problems they blamed on a cheaper chip....and equally lots of happy customers with improved economy, power, torque & general drivability.

I'm interested to hear from anyone who has first hand knowledge or experiences with the cheaper chips, which brand/model it was, and what problems were experienced. Again, I'm after tangible knowledge, not 2nd hand stories.

Equally interested in happy customers, the brand/model they bought, how long they've used it, & the real benefits they've been able to measure.

Hi All, dragging an old post out of the grave.

Just wondering if anyone has any feedback about the TUNIT chips.

A few have popped up on gumtree, but are listed for what seems to be a price too good to be true. Just wondering if there is something wrong with these chips to justify the low price, or is there a bargain to be had?
