When chipit started off they offered some really good bargins.

some purchased sub $300

they them progressivly got more expensive as they made a name for themselves- pretty good advertising model to start off a new brand name.

I don't think you will find a chip for that price again, but sometimes you get older versions of chips come through the marketplace on the fourm and ebay- they sell pretty quick though ;)

There were a couple of cheapies on eBay from the uk and Germany (iirc) but I'm not sure where you'd find the posts about them now.

Beware of the cheaper units as they are not "intelligent" micro processors such as the well known brands. Some well known brands have over 42 reference points within a given tune.

also many cheaper tuning chips cant look after the MAP sensor emulsion which is very important with Turbo engines.

Ch :geek:it area is very out of date and the useless lazy bugger looking after it needs to update the area big time.

The new and exiting Dominator series is being released for the Tritons.

Dominator Mk1 (Similar to DPS 219) is available now. 8-)

MK2 and Mk3 are still undergoing rigorous testing and further development on the Tritons before being released here. 8-)

any 1st hand experience of problems with sub $500 chips?

Postby AussieAnth on Mon Feb 10, 2014 11:29 am

I'm fairly well read up on discussions of the cheaper performance chips, ie: the sub $500 chips that plug into the common rail sensor & affect injector pressure. Loads of skepticism about long term damage, stories of "a mate" and problems they blamed on a cheaper chip....and equally lots of happy customers with improved economy, power, torque & general drivability.

I'm interested to hear from anyone who has first hand knowledge or experiences with the cheaper chips, which brand/model it was, and what problems were experienced. Again, I'm after tangible knowledge, not 2nd hand stories.

Equally interested in happy customers, the brand/model they bought, how long they've used it, & the real benefits they've been able to measure.

I had a NAFTA Performance chip. Did nothing but cause black smoke. I took it out and noticed no difference to performance or economy.

Tdc is pretty good, no lag feel anymore, little bit more power and slightly better fuel economy. $165

I am no expert however I had a tunit chip on a Landrover Discovery TD5 (injector pulse modulation) I did 150,000 miles with no issues what so ever and it went very well.

I now have a Triton 2013 running a Chip it dominator 1 power gains are OK but I am constantly getting CEL engine light on for no reason car can run all day no issues turn it of nip to shop come back start her up goes in to limp mode been told its throttle pedal connection by chip it take chip off no more issues and any setting above 5 does not do any thing.

Best purchase fault code reset tool if it was not for the terrible dead spot low down I would remove the chip

Thee are only my experiences

Regards

Steve

We've got two 3.2MLs both with the no limit tuning chips. From what I've read they've got a pretty bad name on here but here's my first hand experience.

Originally got recommended by a mate with a ZD30 navara who's had his in for over three years with no problems at all. Installed mine getting close to a year ago and not one limp mode/CEL. When I first put it in it blew a bit of smoke but then ended up putting an egr plate it which stopped pretty much all the smoke.

Ended up getting another one for my brothers triton and putting it in a few months later. His does limp with the chip in but only when cruising at 110-120kph. Now it could be that being a cheap chip, the quality varies between each individual unit but trying his in my ute it doesn't limp. After checking the fuel rail pressure of both utes they seem to be very close so we've come to the conclusion that his pressure limiter is failing (P0093 code)when mine holds strong.

They perform pretty well, definitely feel the difference, spools up quicker and boosts higher (with the chip, egr plate and waste gate arm mod hits 19psi on the boost gauge up from about 16). It obviously doesn't look after the MAP sensor but for some reason I've had mine & the other ute to around 24-25psi without a limp mode. A manual boost controller helped to make it pull right up to 3000rpm+ too. Economy is roughly the same, maybe a little better.

So all in all pretty good for the $140 odd I paid for it. I eventually will be going down the chip it path but apprentice wages can't afford that kind of luxury at the moment. Matt

Not mine but others on here, I'm sure they will chime in soon enough.
But a lot of them don't do anything except waste your time and hard earned.
I was lucky I bought my chip it chip when they first started up and paid not much more than some of the cheap garbage around now.
And it's still going strong 4 years later!

Have been running a chipit module for a couple of years, been great, noticeable power increase, especially when towing, along with better fuel economy. Until now. Towing 1.5tonne of caravan up long hills sends it into limp mode, to the point where I had to disconnect it on the weekend so I could get to the high country without stopping every ten minutes. From my research on here, I'm thinking it is an over boost issue when coupled with the 3" exhaust. I need some help Tony, I want my chip back  massive difference when towing these weights compared with stock!
