LPG conversion

Postby waza on Thu Nov 13, 2008 3:53 pm

Though I would share my experience with the Gas Conversion to my Triton MK MY05 GLX-R. This vehicle started out as a very tidy unit, but being an Auto was a tad heavy on juice about 13.5 lt/100. With a lot of research I decided to go with well known company using Vapour Sequential injection system. I live in country SA , 400km from Adelaide so with the decision made off I went and shelled out over $4000.00, albeit I get $2000.00 back.
Nothing but trouble from day one. I could write out my entire experience but it would take forever to read and you would need therapy at the end of it.
The summary of current issues are:-
• Install Date 28th October 2008, yep 17 days ago, mid mount 52lt tank.
• Fuel consumption, (not towing) country run : 16lts/100km
• Fuel consumption, (not towing) around town : 21lts/100km
• Fuel consumption, (towing) 800kg van : 33lts/100km
• Leaking engine coolant
• Loud humming noise coming from Reducer (known common problem to installer)
• No formal response to my correspondence of complaints, 8 days ago

Waza that is bad news.

The quality and experience of the installer has a huge outcome on the finished product.

Those figures are simply wrong and the installer has not done his job properly.

Mine is getting done next week by Qld's largest agent for Impco systems. I am assuming this is the system you had installed as they and Mitsubishi got together for the ML Triton range and is the only official system approved by Mitsu.

I have been running a Ford Falcon ute on gas for over 3 years now and my worst ever was 25 / 100 with 1.25 tonne on the ute and 2.5 tonne caravan into a strong headwind at 90 - 100 kph all the way. I was pushing hard and still blitzed your figures and the Falcon runs the old vapour system not the new injection one.

If you don't get anywhere with the installers I would contact Impco directly and chase them up.

If needed send me a Pm and I shall find the numbers for you and also put you in contact with my Qld guy.

Hope this helps and good luck chasing it down.

Interesting about Impco system approval. My ute is 2005 MK the system fitted is the Parnell V.S.I. I know the figures are not right, my mate in QLD has the same rig except Manual Trans. and is getting around 12l/100. I have decided one fix is to trade up to ML and run with diesel.

Diesel is still way more expensive than Lpg though.

Hey Waza

How are the issues going???

Got mine back from Installation Friday arvo. Loaded up with 1 tonne of motorbikes and camper van and took off Saturday morning.

Brisbane to Stanthorpe over the range averaged 15 ltrs / 100klm

Coming home managed 14.5 / 100

Will post the around town figures later in week when I have actually driven some.

Brad

I was getting no where, it is unlike me not to take on the fight for a fair go. However in this case I took the easy way out. Traded in on a new model refer my updated shed. Lost $2300.00 on the MK (which included the gas conversion cost).
The whole process with the Parnell system has left me a litte jaded, however based on your fuel consumption figures you are doing well with the Impco system.

Waza

Was a little out with my calculations.

Managed 18/100 going up and 17.5/100 coming back.

Still doing the around town run but looking like 15 / 100 for the city cycle. With gas at 54c/ltr it still makes it cheap motoring.

No performance issues either.
