2008 2.4 ML Triton Petrol Uneven Idle

Postby noosatriton on Thu Sep 01, 2016 8:39 pm

Hi everyone, I'm new here, seems like a great forum.
I've only got a humble 2008 ML 4 pot 2.4 petrol, but I love driving it around and its good on gas!

Lately I have had problems with a surging, uneven idle.

I have;
i) changed the air filter
ii) cleaned the MAF
iii) changed the plugs
iv) cleaned the throttle body
v) swapped out the ICV for a new one - which made no difference.

OBD2 code scanner reads faulty ICV, but replacing it made no difference.

Can anyone help? It's really doing my head in!

Cheers

Welcome aboard mate.

Most of us are running diesels so I'm not sure how many replies you're going to get.

Have you been able to access the workshop manual for your engine? They usually have a bit of a troubleshooting flow path to give you a few clues where to look.

Based on what you're getting with the error code I'd be looking at you wiring and connectors to the icv. Assuming there are some anyway since I have NFI...

On the diesels the maf connector for example was notorious for making a poor connection and causing all sorts of weird behaviour. On those a quick clean of the terminals and a slight twisting adjustment to the pins made for a tighter connection and fixed the problem.

Was the new icv a genuine part? Unlikely it is faulty out of the box but I suppose you couldn't 100% rule that out as a possibility. That's where the manual comes in handy as they usually tell you how to test it.

No worries mate, sorry I don't know more about that engine.
