With your fuel economy guys I have a quick question my digital read out of how much fuel I have left only ever gives me 550km per tank yet I'm currenlty avg 620 to a tank with usually 1/4 of a tank left (or just over) is this normal for tritons to do.

Cheers

It's only a guide and never accurate so yes this is normal ;)

Once you've had the ute for a while you'll become familiar with the range you can get :P

That display gizmo is so short on what could have been. I decided to open the unit to check if there was any potential to open any other functionality such as current fuel usage, etc - but alas no obvious jumper points or missing buttons.

Most manufacturers will give you instantaneous fuel usage amongst other figures in similar units.

I can't find my old post it must have been in another fuel economy thread but I have finally managed to do a couple of "normal" tanks since I fitted my bar and tyres and the result is it has made sweet FA difference, with stock size tyres I was averaging 8.5 l/100kms with 265/75 r16's (dynapro MT's at ~45psi) xrox bar and runva 11xp winch I'm now doing 8.8l/100kms corrected for the bigger tyres doing different kms on the odo.

I really thought it would be worse than that it has definitely hurt the power a bit there are some hills where I have to go back to 4th but I'm still very happy with that. Still getting 700 ish kms before the fuel light :)

Also for the trip to the cape and back with 4 blokes in the car and a heap of gear on the back it averaged 9.5 l/100 over 7800kms :D

Maybe I drive like a grandma or have a freak engine or something :?

That's is amazing economy, you sure you're driving a triton? After fitting my bullbar and rear bar and the black one chip I reckon I've lost about 80-120kms of range from a full tank. Fairly disappointed....

Any idea how much of that 80-120km is the chip?

I think the biggest hit on economy was going from 245 to 265 width. Adds weight, rolling resistance and wind resistance.

No not sure but I'm thinking of taking it out when I get back from the uk mid December and seeing the difference.

Stock mine gave me around 700km. After lift, front + rear bars, 32" tyres & drawers the light comes on just before 600km. I then purchased Tony's plug and play egr mod and its gone back to 700km. Very happy with that !!

After 2 fills on stock everything I'm averaging 8.53L/100KM. (MY15 MN Manual)

Coincidentally both fills have been at BP servos.

Going interstate over this weekend which will be all highway KMs. However my 2month/1500KM check is being carried out before then :?

Hi guys,
I beleive i must have the thirstyist triton on the planet. Its a 2012 GLXR auto with frt, rear and side arb bars winch, snorkle, frt and rear lockers raised 2in and chip it mk 3 dominator chip and tonys original egr resistor mod. So you have an idea of the truck and it currently has 24000km on it no canopy no draws in tub......

I constantly get 450km per 65litres. i have measured this every way you could imagine.I have traveled exactly 100km and refilled for 15litres...I have had the factory dte module conected to monitor...i religously rest the trip when filling...i have tried every companys fuel.....i have had the dealer scan and update the pcm and sql done yet still only ever get about 450km to a tank and when i go to refill i put generally 65 lites sometimes 69litres. But let me tell you i have driven probably 12 different tritons and compared to them mine goes like a skinned cat but drinks a lot and no big clouds of smoke out the back.

Just to let you know...

I see you also run 33's, this would be why ;)

Put a set of originals back on and you'll get your 700's back

Just had a run over a 100km on highway on the weekend.
Visited a friend, averaged 7.7l/100k on the way down and AC off, 10.2l/100k on the way back with AC on, figures by the scanguage.
Engine fan was running most of the time on the way back due to the heat.
Went down in the cool morning with a strong tail wind, came back at lunch time in the 40 deg heat and a strong head wind.
Same speeds, same level of traffic.
2012 manual with long range tank, canopy, stock tyres, Tony's resistor mod.
A lot of things vary the consumption. :o)

around town it probably doesn't make much difference but i have my suspicions that the side rails have a bit of an impact at freeway speeds as they are sitting right out in the breeze towards the front of the car. I might do a test one day and take them off and see ....but as per previous posts all sorts of things can make a difference.
This car is like a bad drug habit. It is taking all my money and time, my family are concerned, but new mods just feel sooooooo good.

What happens to the economy if the dominator comes out I wonder?

i also thought of that dave and ran several tanks in factory mode even turned off tonys egr mod via the switch and only a very minute increase im talking 20km extra per tank but you could feel the power loss. Now i dont run my programe for the chip on anything higher then stage 6 either.

ha ha, I get 12s to 100 all the time unless towing it gets worse then and down to 14s per 100. I have a bull bar, side bars, winch and big spotties and a two inch lift. Also went up to 265s from 245s and that made a difference.I think the big fibreglass canopy traps the wind badly and the tire on the roof rack, but I am pretty happy if I get 12s. if I sneak around doing low 90s I can get 11s but I'd rather go fast. Mine is a 3.2litre though and I cringe when I see these blokes getting 8.5s from theirs.
