Hi all,
I recently (last weekend) bought a new MY15 GLXR Manual (Diesel), and have just clocked over the 1400km mark, but I am getting (based on the console) 7-7.3L/100kms running around town on the first tank of fuel, but that hikes up to 11.7-12.3L/100kms on the highway (travelling at 110km/h) second tank of fuel getting to an from work this week. At this point the vehicle is mostly stock (it does have a nudge and tow bar) and I'm not carrying any extra people or weight in the car.
Is this normal, or should I be hoping for an improvement to the highway economy as the kms get up?
Any comments suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers :)

I moved house a couple wks ago from Port Lincoln to Brisbane. I was towing a 10 x 6 box trailer absolutely chockers full along with the car completely full.
I was quite surprised that my fuel economy was 16L/100 the whole trip - going through all the hills north of Dubbo I even got it down to 14.8L/100 (I thought I'd have shocking fuel economy here).
I drove like a Nanna the whole trip mind you. But saved a lot of $$$

Just towed our 19.6" full height concept "off road" van along the Gibb Rv Rd and did 13206 kms.
Had a 12' tinny on the roof of the car, 15hp outboard, generator, fridge, tools, recovery gear, Webber mini Q
plus plus plus in the back and averaged 16.61.l/hks with a lot of head winds. Could average 14.5 with a slight tail wind. This van is 750 kgs heavier than the last one which was a poptop which used about 14 l/hks towing it, overall pretty happy with the fuel economy.
Wind resistance is the killer and i had to sit on 75 kph into the wind.

im getting pretty close to 10lt per 100 combined . pretty happy with that as its still so new. Just towed a 26 foot caravan 2.6 tonne averaged about 14lt/100. was quite impressed with it. only did about 50km just to see how it towed. only have 1500km on the clock so can only get better.

12.5L/100km is my average. 50/50, city/country. Can't complain as it's a ML V6, with canopy, bullbar, 265/65/17's, and modded exhaust, complete with my big right foot.

Still can't find a reason to by an oiler ;)

my 2.5 GLX manual has done 3700k's now and always returns 9-10L/100km. OEM tyres @35psi, 2.16t on the scales. It doesnt variate much depending on the type of driving - town, highway, baby it or up it.

Have filled up at the same BP every time, is the general concensus that BP is the best diesel??
Im really happy with the economy, ive just fitted roof racks so ill see it they make much difference.

To Perth and back (from Gisborne Vic) in our 2013 GLXR manual with 3" exhaust and chip a couple of weeks ago (7,000 Km) and got around 9.1 to 9.5 l/100km depending on the wind for each fill and driving at 107 to 110 Km/Hr - quite happy with that.

OK picked my 2.5 glx tray top and drove around the metro and got 10.2 l/100km then we headed back to Carnarvon an drove at around 100-115 from Rockingham to Gero and and worked out at 9.2l/100km. Then sat at 120 to the Billabong and from there at 130 to home and worked out at 12.2l/100km.
Very happy with that, now onto the EGR blank and t-peice tomorrow to see how she performs.

Thanks all, :)
I'm getting through the kms now, and the past three full tanks were 9.2l/100km, 9.0l/100km and 8.8l/100km with mixed mode driving so it appears to be getting better with wear.
I also cranked the tyre pressures up at the second fuel up, it came new with the tyres varying between 28 and 38psi, so now that I've increased it to 45psi, it rolls a lot smoother.
Interestingly, according to the dash, I am getting better economy mucking around in the hills (low 7's/100) than I do on the highway doing 110-115km/h (11-11.5/100).
I guess we will see what difference putting the spotties and light bar on the nudge bar will be.
Cheers.

I would suggest calculating your fuel economy on how much you put in your tank vs km, rather than relying on the dashboard computer

Thanks Liamk, I do a combination of both, the 9.2,9.0 and 8.8 were based on fuel v kms method. The dash 'computer' is still reading 8.8.

X2 ... ;)
First Law of computing ie, "sh*t in equals sh*t out" also applies equally to dashboard computerised fuel economy / consumption gauges as well...!
Only rely on your actual servo pump measured Litres vs Kms travelled readings if you want to know your -REAL- fuel consumption figures, as opposed to your i-maginary -virtual- reality... ;) :D

What side of Ballarat are you on azza? If east of Ballarat it's all uphill to get there and downhill to get home

Hey guys

I've been tracking my 2014 GLX 2.5 TD for a while and it gets worse and worse.

The first tank gave me 700km. The next few around 600km (~10.5 L/100km) and ever since the 15k service its only getting 580 km or less (11 L/100km). A recent trip to Carnavon with a full car (no towing) i struggled to get 500 km from the tank (12.6).

In comparison, my inlaws ute (a year older) is getting 675km (8 L/100km). On the same trip to Carnarvon his car was still getting ~600 to a tank a year previous.

I'm going to take it in and talk to the dealer and see what they say. I've already spoken to them about some other niggling engine control issues (engine flare during gear change) which they updated the ECU software to fix it. It helped a little but I think its affected the fuel economy.

Danos, What size tyres are you running?

Be aware that any larger tyres you run will alter the odometer accuracy, with larger tyres your odo will read one mileage but you would have actually gone further than indicated.

Make sure you take this into account when guaging your economy. There are plenty of free apps to measure ODO distance, I use Speedtracker to monitor mine and test it quite often. You will be surprised at the difference.

Standard tyres on both. Mine are the 17inch alloys and the inlaws are 16 inch steel rims i think.
