I've been tracking my 2014 GLX 2.5 TD for a while and it gets worse and worse.

The first tank gave me 700km. The next few around 600km (~10.5 L/100km) and ever since the 15k service its only getting 580 km or less (11 L/100km). A recent trip to Carnavon with a full car (no towing) i struggled to get 500 km from the tank (12.6).

In comparison, my inlaws ute (a year older) is getting 675km (8 L/100km). On the same trip to Carnarvon his car was still getting ~600 to a tank a year previous.

I'm going to take it in and talk to the dealer and see what they say. I've already spoken to them about some other niggling engine control issues (engine flare during gear change) which they updated the ECU software to fix it. It helped a little but I think its affected the fuel economy.

My economy changed for the worse after the 15000km service too. I was regularly getting around 750 k's for 65litres but after the service it dropped back to around 600-650 depending on the driving. I thought maybe they changed something after the 'run in'.

I just did a fuel economy run with my GLX-R MN with only 4500kms on the clock so the motor is still a little tight and with a Black One power module.
Std 245/65/17 tires 599kms for 50.45litres or 8.4lts per 100kms
265/70/17 tires 675kms for 66litres or 9.7lts per 100kms
So are the test i'm considering having 2 sets of tires 1 set std 29.5 inch tires and another set of 32's mud tires.

Hey guys

I have put together all the fuel consumption figures I had since I bought the car (manual diesel MY14 I think). It seems I am running a bit high considering the stated fuel economy is 8.3 L/100km. Reading a seperate thread on 'engine flare' and speaking to the dealer last service I might try and run a premium diesel (Caltex Vortex?) and see how it goes. My hunch is that the new emission controls in the ECU burns more fuel when dirty.

Some additional anecdotal evidence in this thread too. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1413466

Haha.

The problem is I have driven both and the cars are identical except for age. I did about 2000k hwy driving on cruise control in Ross's car getting around 670 per tank and really liked it so i went and bought one for myself. The only catch is that his drives like a dream and mine like a tank (pickup is slow, gear change slow, fuel econ poor). That will teach me for not doing a test drive grrrrrr

I was using around 14L/100 on the Noosa to Double Island Point beach in an MN Auto in 4Hlc. Was fairly lightly loaded and most of it was on fairly hard sand with tyres at about 40 PSI and the soft bits up the north end (and all the way back) at 20 PSI.

So I have run a few more tanks through with varying results.

My final conclusion (/agreement) is that driving conditions (speed, gear change, load weight, acceleration, wind resistance, terrain) is the main cause for the higher fuel consumption.

It influences the economy so much that all the other variables (eg fuel type) are a lot less significant. I have gotten slightly more km out of the BP fuels (9.67 L/100km the best) but believe its more because of driving conditions.

Still going ahead with the EGR electrical mod as it makes sense (even if you may not notice it at the pump).

I've tried 4 tanks back to back of United diesel and is on par with Caltex vortex as an average. 850-900klms a tank consistent.

Bp and shell diesel worst performers for economy by 50-60klms a tank.

Long term average since January 9.3l/100km
Best tank full 8.93l/100km
Worst tank full 15.54l/100km
Mainly highway, some trips towing 2700kg boat and a couple of hundred bush k's every couple of months.

On the run home i only used 51lts for the same trip????

Uphill to Dubbo all the way and downhill to Cronulla on the way back, that makes a big difference..

I have also noticed increased fuel usage since my 15000 km service. I have always towed the same work trailer loaded the same and each tank is getting less kms. Is there a possible reason for this? I am about due for the 30000km service and would would like to know is there is anything i should be getting the dealer to look at. Thanks.

I've tracked my consumption from day one. The consumption went down noticeably after the first 10K. It's now at 24K and I'm averaging 8.15 L/100km. Mix of hwy, suburban and city. I'm no lead-foot, but I don't drive Miss Daisy either  Fuel light goes on at around 750, and usually takes around 60L. I only run Shell Diesel. The SPV switchable resistor mod was an improvement of 0.5L/100km over the blanking plate :!:

Think you should stop complaining. :D My 02 V6 Mk does 16l/100km empty and skyrockets to low 20's when loaded for camping or towing anything. Lots of $$$ in fuel. I run 265/70 R16 M/T's (32's), lukey extractors, performance muffler (sounds unreal) but I have roof racks with spotties up top and are a bit heavy at times on the right pedal.

10 MN GLXR, consistently averaged 10.5 city driving and with towing 1.5t to Jamieson around 11.5-11.9l/100kms.

AFTER the service campaign and 60K service (last week), averaged 8.6l/100km with the range showing 780km after filling up at Mansifield..dunno what they done and unless my fuel gauge is faulty, l don't have an answer for what gave me the extra mileage.

Update on 2012 triton, manual GLX.
Now has 35,000k on the clock.
Besides bullbar, canopy, 2nd battery and long range tank, only other mod is Tony's EGR resistor mod.
Standard OEM tyres at the moment, run 245/75/16 ATs on a trip.
Averaging about 9.5l/100k around suburbs of Brisbane.
Son averaged 9.4 l/100k Brisbane to Sydney and back last week, AC on, head wind and load in the back, uses cruise control.
I generally get 0.5 to 1.0l/100k better than he does at the same speeds, not using cruise control and a lighter foot for the same average speeds. :o)
Towing camper trailer (800kg) over to Kimberleys last year.
Sitting on 100km/hr on the flat out west, about 11.0, 110km/hr - 12l/100k, 120km/hr - 13 to 13.5l/100k, add 1l/100k for hillier going.
Try to run on BP premium diesel, worth about 0.5 l/100k, but hard to measure.
