Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT)

Does anyone have some temperature readings so I can make a comparison? Just fitted a cheap unit but not sure if it is reading correctly. Sits around 220 around town and got it up too 320 ish under load on the highway.

Hmmm seems very low. Mine on the highway sits on 400d and thats straight off the turbo well about 3" from it. Id be checking it - it also sits on about 260-320 round town...

pre turbo or after. I know on landcruisers there was around 200 degrees difference.

Mine is a couple of inch's after the the turbo on the dump pipe.

My rig sits on 350C doin 100 k's. Slightly higher with the gas on around 400C.

Hey guys and girls, I have searched the forum hi and low for what people are getting from their ML's egt's with no luck so thought I'd start a new thread. Mainly after what u get at 100km/h and also how hot when towing. Mine has 3" Scott's rods exhaust, k&n filter, snorkel and chip it fuel rail and injector chips and my egt's are up around 450 at 100km/h. Is this excessive? I'm a new comer to the tritons from patrols and this is a bit higher than I'm used to

Around 520 when towing with chip and exhaust then got it on the dyno now it's around 100deg cooler with more power and better fuel economy. And just driving unloaded not towing around 390

Mine sits around 300deg when just cruising at 100kmh when it is just he car, when pushing it up a hill, it will hit around 450deg, and with my plant trailer fully laden up hill it will get to around 550 if I'm pushing it, but i typically take it easy on the car with the trailer on board as I don't want to cook it.

It is hard letting people overtake you when you know that you could easily just drop back a cog and power up the hill, just figured its not with the risk of having to call the tow truck Bce we made it to the top

Your tritons will pull up hill easily. Not trying to some stupid or boasty but I towed a trailer from jimboomba full of firewood about 2.3t up cunninghams gap way out past allora to a mates property. I had no dramas no problems or anything. I just surfed the torque wave up and down the rev range. I think you would have to be doing something pretty silly to get the motor to overheat and cook. That's just my 2cents worth. Does anyone else do heavy towing from time to time? I might add the only thing I didn't like was the amount of fuel I used.

I relocated from mackay to Melbourne towing a 10x6x7 furniture trailer approx weight 2.5t went up some big hills had to drop back to 3rd gear on some of them mind you this is a mk triton 2.8td didn't miss a beat did the Job was little slow on some hills but got there in the end.

Once air fuel drops below around 14.5 to 1, its going to heat up quickly. Ok under 14 to 1 for a short burst, but I like to see them settle at over 14 to 1 there on.

What temps would you be happy for the tweaked 3.2l to be running at (measurements taken from the dump pipe on a scotts rods system)

since installing the McNally egt/boost guage, i pretty much drive to the EGT guage, and try to keep it under the 450-500 mark if i can help it up the hills, but sometimes there is no option but to power through. In my car, when the EGT starts getting above 400, the engine temp starts to climb fairly rapidly (going by my ultraguage) and will go from 80-82 up to 90deg pretty quickly. i usually start to back off when i see the engine temp climb as i dont want to overheat it.

Under 550 for prolonged periods, engine temps OK around 93. If your EGTs are rising too much in the hills for you, bump the boost up to 22 psi then start taking fuel out by dropping a tune or two.
They will take over 600 in short burst such as when overtaking etc. Just dont hold it there.

Hmmm Interesting. I have been looking at mine. I drive up a hill home for 17km and down the same one to work. I get on the nice cruise down egt of low as 70 and up i can get up to 560 up a hill flat in 5th and chuging the last bit. To lazy to drop back a gear. If i pull out to pass up a hill i get the 550+ mark thats in 4th / 5th. I notice boost standard its a little poo too. I get boost spikes of 23psi and when im going up a hill with moderate throttle i get average 18psi seems to be the standard for the ecu control. I have the egr blank in. I have noticed with the egr blank i can assume i get negative pressure in my manifold with slight throttle i would assube the egr blank causes a vaccum as the throttle body is closed. It really is a silly design and im going to try for the LR2 mod. Just need a mate to help me with the fab work.

I fitted my egt gauge last week and the temp when cruising at 110 is around 580 deg this seems high to me just wondering what other peoples temps are
I do have a egr blank in and that's it at the moment the rest is standard ?

I think 700c is a bad temperature for your engine, it's not the water coolant temp which we would expect to be bellow 100c

580 is very high for cruise mode to be honest mate.

what else have you done? have you chipped? if you chip without more air you will run big temps. it sounds like you need more air.

at 110 you should only be around 2400 RPM on light throttle.

what does it spike to on full throttle?

don't let the temps go much higher than that for very long.

one assumes the EGT probe is post turbo in the dump right?
