I've carried out this mod on a 130000km SCV valve and it's now as good as new and been running for the last 20000km in my ML.

If anyone is interested I may post a thread for the repair of a stuffed SCV valve so you don't have to waste your money on constantly getting new ones.

I got the craps with the SCV valves and now have the solution for $0

I'm interested. ;-)

I just replaced my SCV after 96,000km. I do a serious amount of idling and light throttle cruising. Apparently this can shorten the operating life of these SCV's due to the nature of how they work.

A few of us suspect that it most likely the coil breaking down and getting weaker. Have you ever felt how hot they get while idling?

Anyway I'd be interested to see what you do to repair them.:-?

Interestingly I was able to keep mine going longer by removing it and rotating it every few thousand km's.

Note: for anyone wanting to replace SCV on their MN's... Make sure you get the correct one. MN's seem to have a few different fuel pumps for exactly the same motor that require different SCVs. Trust me some won't even go close to fitting.

Hi all,

my ML has been experiencing some surging, specifically around 2000rpm under light load, i.e. acceleration or up hill. It's intermittent, as in sometimes the truck runs fine but other times it's very obvious.

I'm thinking it could be the SCV, so I've posted here. Not sure if it could be something else.

A few weeks ago I installed Tony's EGR mod, could that cause surging if something is not working right there?

Cheers

I just had my scv replaced under warranty 86k, I had a couple of days of surging only in the morning but they apparently found the issue on start up with the computer. Has anyone else felt a huge difference in response and power

If you installed it as per the instructions then you can easily remove it and join the two bullet connectors to put it back to a factory state. Then if it still surges you've ruled out the mod as being a contributor.

I was thinking that Dave. Just wanted to know if an issue with the maf sensor could lead to surging in the first place.

Yes I think so. There have been reports of dealer technicians fiddling with the pins in the plug to get a better connection as one of a range of fixes deployed when surging is reported. So possible in principle purely from the maf. But as to whether inserting resistance on one wire would cause the same thing - I would think not. If the connection or a component was dicey then maybe I guess.

Hmm, maybe I'll install that switch on the white wires and see if I can turn it off while it's surging. Hmm, will see how it goes.

Just thought ide throw this in and see if anyone has a solution...
Just replaced my scv due to surging the other day and lately throwing the code (suction control valve stuck) resulting in limp mode.
Now after replacing it, ive got smooth acceleration back. But now after idling for 10 seconds I am still getting the same code and limp mode!!!!. :o
Has onyone experienced this?

Got it through my mechanic who fitted it for me. Legedly an oem part, not cheap either.
Got car booked in with mitsy tomorrow to do a scan.
Mitsy even said to me that after installing it shouldnt throw a code. But I am under the belief that the ecu needs to learn its got this new part. Is that correct?
So many others around have just thrown then in without a mut3 and gotten away with it. But theirs wernt throwing codes when they swapped it.

Yeah I've heard you can run it without it being coded but it can run rougher than it should. Hopefully the coding or whatever it is fixes your issues.

Let me know. I threw a new one in last week and it immediately threw codes and puffing smoke everywhere and wouldn't rev according to my mechanic. Ended up throwing the old one back in.

If you're doing servicing yourself or via independant, its probably worth having the MUTT plugged in every 50 or 60k for any tweaks to the system.

I think, from the added 'zest' vehicles seem to have after a dealer service, that even though the ECUs perform constant adjustments, the manufactures build in a decaying performance curve to 'encourage' us back to their stealers.

Turns out my reoccurring limp modes were due to a corrupt ecu and not the scv.

Oh well........going the whole hog.
New ecu, upgraded manifold, valve adjust and lower manifold clean.
Should drive like new and it better for the dough.

How on earth do you get a corrupt ECU?

Bad connection, jump starting, spike from relay operating, rubbing an ebony rod on your stockings and then touching the odb contacts..........probably a circuit board fault in the ecu. :?

have you tried TritonWreckers for a second hand ECU. Pretty sure if you need new hardware they can be swapped BUT you need to get it all recalibrated to the rest of the car i think. (that it what your dealer will do with new ECU anyway).
This car is like a bad drug habit. It is taking all my money and time, my family are concerned, but new mods just feel sooooooo good.
