If you are running temps as such it will in time drop a piston. 800c in the dump will be over 1020c preturbo if your EGT gauge is accurate.

I'd be surprised if the given tunes make temps like that under full load as Chipit ramp the fuel back in that area.
How much boost do you have when this happens?

What to do, back off a bit and or change down one gear till it cools down a tad. Also perhaps go down a tune or two while towing if your in the big ones.

Hotter without the chip! Chip drops temps a bit and higher tunes drop temp more. But then they over boost and I get a limpy

I did ambient temp, boiling water, ice. How else do you calibrate it without a known?

Controller settings fine. Runs on around 300 doing 60kmh cruising.

Just given up on it. If she blows.... well... 10yr warranty I suppose

cos they go faster ;) and further ;) :D

Infra red wont do the job Mooons. Need to measure gas temp inside not the steel temp outside. It would be too slow to measure the steel once it had heated up :?

What is moons inferring?. (infer red.... get it?)
Matt I would perhaps try another probe as this one may be having a non linear response to temperature rises, especially when in stock form it is reading higher. Also the meter may be set to read J instead of K or T type probes or vice versa.

Hi Greg I was trying to infer I have checked thermocouple type and all settings 15 times!

It can only be a thermocouple. I have a spare but I havent got the time to change it yet and its a mega pain to do so!

I even de-lugged the ends of the thermocouple so as to remove a dis-similar metal from the lead. No i didnt shorten it

I've had a lot to do with temp controllers over the years so I know most of the tricks

Mine is running around the 420 mark at 105-110km but will climb if put under load, have a 3inch exhaust but standard dump pipe at the moment. have see just over 600 if worked real hard. Might get better when I get rid of the cat.
Cheers

i would have thought sitting in the driveway on idle the temp would be fairly constant infra red would then prove the accuracy of your unit
Don't say I didn't offer
The other option that you can tell me to stick it is
to temporary hook my EGT monitor that's sitting in the spare room up and do a compare
Or you can melt that sucker into a big blob till it drips down onto your bash plates

Thanks mate. Don't think I realized there were separate threads that only subscribers could access. Don't recall it saying that under the subscription section.

At last count there are 66 threads hiding in the platinum area. Like the forum in general there are some fairly ordinary gossipy sort of threads but there are a couple of technical threads worth a look. I'm sure I've saved more than 50 bucks from stuff I've read on the forum so for me it was money well spent.
The Hitchhiker's guide to the the Triton universe and NTN.

A how to on finding your own way - search me.

The two threads I wish people would use more: thing 1 and thing 2.
