I just clicked the 'subscription' tab at the top right of the screen/page, and then followed the links etc from there.

Well worth it in my opinion. :)

Such an old thread.

I was getting alarmed at 525, chipit on 8, 3: exhaust, 5th gear towing a tandem trailer on 100.

If 650 is the limit in the dump then i might raise the tune 1 or 2.

There's a difference between limit and target - just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

on the flat? On an incline? How loaded up is the trailer?

If that's 525 on the flat, then as soon as an incline or hill comes you'll likely skyrocket past 650.

To me 525 cruising is high ..... and may indicate a need to go back a tune or two ...

Agreed - tune 8 would indicate the same (to me at least), I would have thought that wasn't compatible with continued longevity of the engine.

On inclines. The trailer is minimum 1.5T tandem. It just seems in 5th at lower rpm/boost the egt's just skyrocket.

God knows what the egts were when I was running all standard flooring it with the trailer from perth to harvey/australind @ 130km/h plus

Really need most of the power on takeoff/lower gears. From what I read the higher tunes address this ?

Yes mate, labouring with low rpm/boost will sky-rocket your EGTs. Too much fuel and not enough air.

The key here is to drop her back a gear when you see your EGTs rise, turbo will come on song and the extra boost will balance out the air fuel ratio, from here you should see your EGTs stop rising and even decrease.

When said you were flogging it from Perth at 130... you would have been safe.

Is nature of the beast with these MNs Unfortunately most people just blame the underrated engine but I blame the high gearing we have. But custom tuning certainly does do wonders.

Just realized just night that I was only on tune6. Move her up to tune 8 and seemed a little better in 5th gear.

Mine runs at around 450 at 110 and about 280 around town but up hills it will go to the mid to high 300's & sometimes even go as high as 400.
But what is freaking me out is the heat expansion noises that have started coming from the 2.5 mn motor ( even while driving). But when you shut her down, that is when it sounds like there is some super loud popcorn banging & going off under the bonnet. And I mean that it is making some really really loud cracks & bangs.
Water temps are good with new big mouth 82 deg thermostat (gauge sits at halfway) & it has got good oil pressure.
I am starting to think that maybe the CAT has collapsed inside the Dump pipe causing excessive exhaust manifold heat.
Only started doing it after it did 5 runs on a Dyno.
