MN Triton Recall

Postby porter001 on Mon Nov 19, 2012 7:11 am

Have just spoke to my local Stealer and they have informed me that my Apr 2011 built MN currently has a recall issue and they want it back it to remap the ECU.. anyone else had this done or heard about it?

Nope, not directly. Although had big issues with my 15,000 service when it started blowing black smoke afterwards! Took it back and they had to update the ECU... Perhaps same issue?

Mine is at the dealer now for a whole heap of warranty fixes (manifolds, oil leaks, steering column etc) so will ask when he calls to give me an ETA about the recall.

Is it a full recall, or a hotline fix??

Because It's not a recall. It's just an ecu update with some parameters adjusted. Some Tritons and Challengers have been experiencing problems with overboost. I just got mine back from its 30k service and that was one of the things mentioned on the paper work. ECU update for underboost code. Though Ive never had the code it apparently can't be cleared with scan tool, only be cleared with a mut3 at dealers.

My stealer said its apparently a "pollution update to the ECU". Mine's booked in for warranty work anyway so I'll get it done. Im not worried.. haven't had any drams with overboosting/ engine lights.

Its not a SAFETY recall, which means you wont get notified about it,
It is however a recall that is there to address a known issue,

The only time it ends up on the website or you get a letter it is because it is a safety related recall.

Young Lee-thal will be doing that at my 1500 service next Monday then! For the first time in my life I am actually looking forward to taking my car to a dealer. Its a very cool feeling to have confidence in your service people.

I had the ECU flash done this week when they were trouble shooting why my airbag light was on all the time. Apparently one of the sensors had changed resistance and the local dealer needed to seek guidance from the Mitsi tech dept to clear the fault code and reset the light on the dash. All good so far.

I had mine reflashed last week when it went in for a service even though I specifically told them not to touch it...

Not much difference in performance, but egts have risen since the last version of software I had installed.

sorry if i'm a little naive, what is EGT on Kegsy's post, exhuast temp??? If this is the exhaust temps, what should I be getting on a stock 2.5 2010 MN GLX-R

Also just had my 30k service today, they ran a treatment throught the engine to getrid of carbon build up. not sure if this is worth the extra $$$.

Service is $590 on it's own.

Yeah you got it... exhaust gas temp.

As for what a stock vehicle should read I'm not sure sorry. Never had the gauge before my exhaust was changed

How much have they risen, say at cruising on flat road unladen at 100km/h?

Edit: curiously too, why didn't you want it updated? I'm due for a service in the next month (15k)

They have gone up around 50 - 60 degrees at highway cruise.

I asked for it not to be touched as I've never had a single code thrown on my truck and I'd guessed egts would rise as every flash they have done they rise slightly.

I'm a massive believer in better the devil you know. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Apparently mitsi didn't agree and did what they thought best.

Truck still runs good, just slightly hotter.

Any guesses as to why the increase in egt temps? Has the mixture been altered?

The service tech told me that the fuel mixture at high boost has been changed in the ECU update, the time that the warning came up in past for others was pulling a large load or putting your foot into it up hills.

I've pulled large duel axle loads before without issues.

Anyone running a chipit with EGT gauge and the latest ECU flash able to comment on whether EGT temps have increased under load causing the chip to detune (eg hit the 650 degree limit), or are the increases in temp more at cruising conditions?

my mn started running great with about 25000 on it when i put it in for for the 30000 service turns out the boost controlled had been wide open forcing over 20 pound through (service dudes opioin) they remapped it and serviced then i was told all good

about 600kms later it was running sluggish and making bearing noises called them up and car went back bearings in the turbo were gone and the manifold had blow the gasket and also a small crack in it . i am happy to say all was replaced without a drama well only drama was i was driving a lancer around for nearly 2 weeks while parts came in apparently from japan. once i got it back brake booster shit itself but was repaired quickly since then no problem and hopefully no more mind you car only has 36000 now haha

i am happy with the service provided by the dealer while they had my car i had a car to use
