09 3.2 stalling when cold.

Postby Hummer on Fri Jan 04, 2013 11:07 am

Hi all,

I bought an 09 vr 3.2 auto triton 2 months ago. Just went 106,000kms.

It started stalling when the motors cold.

Its in the dealer at the moment getting looked at but im seeing if anyone else has had a similar problem.

Im thinking it might be glowplugs but should this be covered under warranty??

Cheers

Does it blow white smoke when you first start it when it's cold?

Doesn't sound like glow plugs to me, sounds like more of a carbon issue

No smoke at all on start up. The dealership coundnt find any faults but they updated the software to stop the carbon build up problem. Only just updating the software after 100 thou is a bit worrying. :? . Looks like i gotta drop it back off there next week for an overnight stay so they can see it on cold startup in the morning.

Would the carbon build up cause this???

Cheers

It would have to be awfully bad to stall it I would have thought. Are you saying it stalls just after you've started it or as you're driving off down the road but not yet up to full operating temp?

Maybe the EGR valve is jammed open?
I think this could be the stalling cause when cold?

Short of them updating the software to completely write out the EGR which would be illegal, nothing they do to the computer will "solve" the carbon build up problem!
Seems like a very strange problem. I immediately think fuel Delivery issues, but have no idea. To my knowledge, no one has every posted a similar problem.

The car normally runs rough for a min or two like it has a miss when you start it up first thing in the morning but by the time im up the road it comes good. Its not constant but every few seconds(5-10) its like a cylinder doesnt fire and sometimes completly stalls.

Hope i havent picked up a lemon

I would be interested if anyone has had a similar problem

Thanks for the help :D

Hopefully mitsubishi can figure it out.
Gotta leave it at the dealers overnight some time next week so they can see it happen.

Had something like this in my hilux tracked it down to being the check valve in the filter assembly

Worked it out by using the hand primer under the bonnet before starting when cold.

Give it a go in the morning and see what happens.
