Just checked mine... I was hoping I'd never have to go back to a dealership ever again.

I wonder if a class action is feasible along the lines that we have been allowed to drive around in defective vehicles for years?

Surely Mitsui knew quite a while ago about these air bags! Manufactures account for every nut, bolt and spot weld these days, how can they not know the source and specs of the airbags?

Unless you were injured by it I don't see what your class action would be about? You were potentially in danger, might of been hurt, could have happened...

Go crash your car, set off the airbag, and hope for it to injure you - then take them to court.

The airbag MFG is Takata, not Mitsubishi.. So you'd be suing them..

Have a gander at the manufacturers affected by the recall.. 100 million airbags. ;) - Some stats.. 10 deaths, more than 100 injuries, in the US.

Checked those VIN ranges and amazingly my 2014 model isn't affected. I did get a bad motor though.

Bugger I'm in there too. 08 ML - GLXR. Do you need to go to Mitsubishi or can other places order in the gear and do it? ie Lee @ Kia ?

Drivers Front AirBag Inflator recall

Postby veom on Wed Aug 10, 2016 3:58 pm

I've just got a letter from Mitsubishi informing me of this air bag recall. I've got a MY 2009 ML GLXR. Has anyone else heard anything?

The letter states:
The Takata driver's front airbag installed in your vehicle may release metallic fragments from the inflator container if the airbag is deployed. These metallic fragments may injure the vehicle occupants.

There have been no reported failures or incidents relating to this recall here in Australia. in face, Australian-market vehicles are considered low risk. However, MMAL has decided to initiate this recall campaign as a precautionary meaure. The driver's side (Takata) airbag will be removed from your vehicle and replaced with a new airbag from an alternative supplier.

It seems like lots of manufactures are affected by this problem.

Old news I'm afraid but as I'm only on a phone I'll not bother to dig up the old thread/s. Searching takata would find them pretty quickly.

I gather they are spreading out the notifications for when they have sufficient parts to do the replacements.

Nice to know that in the meantime it's apparently fine for the rest of us to drive around with baby claymores sitting in front of our faces.

Not sure if ours are as bad as Honda's were in the states but if so you might want to keep your eyes shut afterwards too

Yeah the one where the woman was able to staunch the blood flow from her neck by putting two fingers in the hole was a bit of a graphic explanation.

Plug recall arrived about a week ago for the men and this week the letter arrived re the airbag in my ml, tends to suggest both problems not across both vehicles, at this stage.

Warranty Recall for Drivers Airbag??

Postby desblaze on Sat Oct 01, 2016 10:51 am

Anyone else get a letter for a replacement Airbag recall. I have a 2007 ML 3.2. Apparently TATA made the airbag and there's an issue with it? While there there doing it I am getting my stuffed clock spring replaced.
