I'm not sure how relevant this is for Tritons but I put my Pajero in for the timing chain tensioner replacement and indicator stalk lube, last week.

Interesting conversation with the Service Clerk when I dropped it in:

SC: "Oh, I see that you're listed for the airbag problem, too."
Me: "Yes, I have the letter for that one, as well."
SC: "Does your steering wheel have buttons?"
Me: "Buttons?"
SC: "Yes, buttons for the radio and phone."
Me: "Yes"
SC: "In that case it (the recall) doesn't apply. It's only for models that have no buttons around the wheel."
Me: "Really? Wouldn't Mitsubishi know which vehicles have the problem airbags?"
SC: "They're doing it by VIN number (sic) so everyone is getting the letter. When you get the second letter just bring it in and we'll have a look. If it has no buttons then it won't apply and we'll mark you off the list."
Me: "Can you do that today?"
SC: "No, you have to have the second letter."
Me: "But surely you can record that mine has buttons so I don't have to make an appointment and come back in for something that will only need a visual check?"
SC: "No, we can't do that. You have to have the letter."
Me:

I have had the 2 recall notices hanging on the fridge for months, will get around to them one day.

Don't go near a dealer very often.

Airbag recall

Postby M.Bas on Wed Jan 18, 2017 12:46 am

I received a letter from Mitsubishi that my car (2007 ML) has been volunteered to participate in a recall regarding the driver side airbag inflator and seems to be a part of the massive Takata airbag recall still going on.
Reference code is ENL-16-032-SR.

You guys down under seem to be more at risk of this problem then me almost up in the arctic, as the letter describes the problem as too much pressure in the airbag when it goes of in hot climates and blowing all kinds of shrapnel around and the airbag failing to do its duty.

MN Airbag recall

Postby Bammo on Thu May 18, 2017 1:43 pm

I see that the ACCC has included MN series Triton's in the Takema airbag recall...

https://www.productsafety.gov.au/system ... 4%20MY.pdf

I rang my local dealer and they had no information about this at all. Anyone received a letter or other notification yet?

Interesting

My Vin falls within the range stated in the link  , i have received no notification form my dealer or MMA yet, and i just had mine in to get the airbag harnesses replaced recently (due to my airbag light coming on repeatedly), so one would have hoped that they would have picked it up then . :?

Alot of car makes are affected. Its due to a manfacturing issue of the airbag. I beleive its to with metal fragments after airbag has been set off injuring ppl.

yep sure was, though a 2010 will be out of warranty i would assume, so you may need to fork out the cash yourself, think it would have been about $1500 if it wasnt covered by warranty

You could also argue that it is a known fault from factory and as such should be covered by MMA.

A recall overrides warranty, so doesn't matter how old or how many kilometres.

Important thing with this recall is that, for Takata, there are literally millions to be replaced and it's physically impossible to do them, or produce them, in a short time frame. I recall that it was estimated that the full programme may take up to 7 years.

The other thing is that although a vehicle (Mitsubishi anyway) may fall within the VIN range, it may not actually have the Takata airbags in it. Has to be confirmed with a visual check. So, possible that even if you've received the letter, you may not have the Takata airbag(s). Certainly was the case for me.

Chris is correct. I removed my horn pad for a look and discovered mine was a different brand. The truly annoying part was that MMAL knew when they checked that I didn't have the takata in my car, but that didn't stop them sending me a recall notice and reminders.

Yeah its a painful process. I had to book it in. 3 weeks later they checked it. Then had to order the parts. I then had to bring it back 4 weeks later for the replacement. All free though and now no grenade in front of me :D
