Air Bag Recall

Interesting seeing Mitsubishi's name amongst the brands in the USA regarding the current airbag recall.

Has anyone researched whether suspect units could exist in our Tritons?

I understood that Mitsubishi were not involved at all with the airbag recall. If they're listed in the States then that would probably only apply to locally produced vehicles.

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

And on this morning's TV news 11 vehicle brands globally are affected including also, Ford, BMW, Mazda, Fiat, Chrysler and Daimler.
TAKATA the Jap company who manufactured these -exploding- airbags apparently has 25% of the global airbag supply market....
They are now -estimating- 34 Million vehicles in the US alone, and possibly up to 53 Million vehicles world wide, could be affected by this fiasco ....
Glad I don't own shares in TAKATA .... ;)

My daughter's elderly Honda CRV was recently recalled to have its airbags replaced which means that, potentially, it has been a four-wheeled time bomb for the past 8 years or so.

With the list of affected vehicles going back to 2001I find it very hard to believe that this problem remained undetected for so long and suspect that Takata has been less than forthrightly honest. Maybe they hoped that if they waited long enough most of these vehicles would have been scrapped?

Air Bag Recall

Has anyone heard about the airbag recall on the MN Tritons. According to the article it seems we are caught up in the Takata airbag issues. Nothing on the government recall web site yet.

The corrosion of the switch effecting the lights is interesting, I'm sure a read recently a member here having issues with his lights that closely resembled that description.

The way it has been explained to me, is that the airbags in our country are different to those used overseas. Something to do with our requirements on SRS airbags being harder to comply with?

I'm pretty sure we had a post when this first came out quite a while ago on other vehicles which basically said we don't have that brand of airbags in Tritons, in Australia

So when I went looking for the old thread on the same subject, it had the exact same thread title. Made merging the 2 threads a bit of a no brainer.
