MY15 MN GLX Heater Core Leak

Postby Ryan B on Fri Apr 21, 2017 2:52 pm

Hi all,

I recently returned from holidays and on our way back I noticed a coolant smell in the cabin when the a/c was set on anything other than full cold. I have the engine data scanner running all the time and the coolant temp was ranging from 88-91 deg C and everything else was normal. I checked the engine bay for fluid leaks and the level in the over flow which was all ok.

I took the car for a drive today and immediately set te A/C to hot and in less than a few hundred meters while the car was still cold the smell returned.

I am assuming I have a coolant leak from heater core or a line in the cabin. Has anyone experienced this before or know of any service letters that would apply to this?

Not I don't think this is related to the cooling system campaign as my car is a 2015 build.

Thanks for reading.

When I've had heater cores go in other cars I'd get green steam on the windscreen followed by a pool in the carpet.

Since it's under warranty you could get the dealer to pressure check the system?

I think the coolant moves through the heater coil continually. It does not shut off like older cars when you move the lever away from hot

Just confirming that the heater core did have a crack and I had the dealer replace it under warranty.

Gee..would have been a mission getting that swapped over. The heater cores on most vehicles seems to be the first item running along the 'conveyor' as assembly takes place around it.

Did the dealer have it long for the changeover?
