Leaking EGR Motor

Postby marwas on Fri Feb 20, 2009 12:04 pm

If anyone has had an increase in their fuel consumption check around the gasket on the EGR motor (valve). My fuel went up and when checking oil one day, noticed soot around gasket. I took in to the stealer and they had to order a new one (6 weeks none in aus).

I took my top EGR pipe off yesterday to check how sooty it was inside. The gasket on the motor/valve end looked OK, but now I'll have to keep an eye on it

I can't believe how many Triton parts AREN'T kept in stock in Australia

I had a mate buy a new Hilux and drive it straight down to a Sydney ARB outlet to have the bells and wistles fitted. While fitting the Steinbauer chip they somehow fried the factory ECU.
Toyota had none in the country and it took 4 weeks on a slow boat to get one....meantime my mate had no car!

It seems a common failing of most manufacturers...there should be spare parts in the country to replace anything and everything on a vehicle.

This is what the inlet looks like after 40000 kms.

I had this problem also, the dea;er cleaned it out and ordered a"fix" part for next service 45 000 km but when they said service was $850 i canceled service and told them to do egr fix only. When i got the truck back i noticed the dash computer and radio hadnt reset and thinking that they didnt do anything at all as they were pissed about not doing service (I canceled service 5 days before it was due). Will enquire further about what was done and if the computer was ment to be reflashed.

Wow, that's some impressive carbon Madpyro. Is it hard to get the manifold off? I might have a look. Is anyone else running a biod blend like gull's bio D?

Hey Jitsukablue, there was a bit of messing around, have to undo fuel pipes. Just be carefull not to loose the washers that sit on the inlet manifold. I was told Mitsu did not advise to do this as there is a metal gasket that you can't get from them. I will be doing it again later down the track just to see if its better after the ECU reflash.
