2 x Hot-fix applied. No joy.
Still misses with L.O.T.
Still takes off about 2 seconds too late.

Stealer claims they applied two hot-fixes.
First one (MN13-001) for roughness at L.O.T.
Second one (which he claimed they downloaded the night before) for takeoff lag.
Mongrel wouldn't tell me the Hot-fix number for the second one. Service advisor is an arrogant prick.

I've never heard of the 2nd hotline fix. sounds like he might have been pulling your leg a bit there. Although I have heard though that the current hotline fix isnt fixing all of the MN's and they are still investigating it

I think you're right there MitsiGuy. I'm sure I read somewhere that the "downloaded last night" line has been uttered before.
I do think the lag has improved a little, but that was probably MN13-001.
The chief service tech who came for a drive with me the day after the work was a pretty good bloke and I wish I'd remembered to ask him if there really was a second hot-fix. I was too busy grilling him on egr blanking plates, balls in vacuum hoses and performance chips.

Sorry for the dumb question but all these hotline fixes you guys talk about how do you find out if they have been done to your car? Is there a phone number you ring and check with them? I have the surging issue and some flat spotting. Should i take the egr plate off before i take it in for the next service?

There isn't a way you can find out if a hotline fix has been carried out unless you know what the replaced parts are and what the revised part looks like and the details of the hotline fix. There is no phone number you can ring either. The only thing I can suggest is to take it to your dealer presenting with your faults / symptoms and then they will carry them out accordingly if needed.

I would remove the plate before taking it in if your going to mention the surging. Will give you a hard time with the warranty.

Got a call from my stealer technician yesterday.

He has reported my surging/ stuttering problem to MM. Apparently they have had a number of complaints about the same problem (All MN MY2010), none of which were fixed by the latest hot-fix.

He reckons that MM have said they won't produce an update until they reach a threshold number of complaints.

So anyone who is having this problem with their MN MY2010 Triton, PLEASE make your stealer report it so we can get our fix!

Is it for the 4 and 5 speed auto or just the 4?

Mine's the 4 speed.
Not sure about the 5, but IMHO it's engine/ECU map specific and not dependent on transmission type.
I mentioned to the tech that it seemed like it was starved of fuel with the throttle just open, like when my old Laser's fuel filter was full of crap. The tone of his "mmmm" in response sounded to me like he was agreeing.
I'm betting it's something to do with the injectors/ glow plug temp.
Try maintaining a constant speed just after it's changed into fourth gear and if you get a misfire or little jerk every say 5 to 10 seconds, you'll know it applies to you. You'll know what I mean if it happens. It's sooo annoying. Feels like your driving an old rust-bucket that might conk out any minute.

This is interesting since this phenomenon only occurs when I have the chip in even when its set on the factory tune I take the chip out and its all good. Im getting a replacement soon so it will be interesting to see if it happens again with the replacement chip. I havent isolated the fault if its the loom or the electronics.

That IS interesting.
I wonder if it's an obscure manifestation of an electrical fault then.
Like a bad ground or EMF interference?
Maybe I just need to whack in a bottle of injector cleaner.
I should probably try that, actually. I'd be pretty embarrassed if worked.

Reckon you might be on to something there gregned.
I've been desperately searching for a workshop manual for the MN.
Looks like I'll have to go to National Library of Australia or State Library of South Australia.
Both of these report they are holding copies.

what are you after in the manual burnah? Might be able to extract some diagrams or something for you if that would help?

Mighty kind of you to offer Cowboy Dave!

Mainly interested in electrical system, particularly signal wiring.
If there are any diagrams showing wiring of sensors and ECU that would be beaut'.

Do you know if there's anywhere to purchase the manual?

Sorry, can't help you on that Geoff. But the threshold has been reached and apparently a new ECU program to address has been burned to CD's and is being posted out as we speak.

There is a european manual here http://www.mitsubishi-forums.com/t25547 ... manual.htm
but it requires IE 5.5 or 6.0 apparently (haven't tried any compatibility mode settings). Not that up to date and 200Mb download.

I am hunting for the same and thought it would be a single PDF I could download to an iPad for remote trekking but apparently it is some local web application that requires you to install ancillary apps, load vehicles and then navigate a heap of archaic menus to get to the various parts.

I have seen it in operation (side kick) just don't have my hands on it :(

Cheers

Blocked Boost Port - Replaced upper inlet manifold and relocated boost port as per ML15-003.

This was on the docket when (under warrenty) MMAL replaced the upper AND lower inlet manifold. The notes for the lower were: swirl control valved blocking. Both came under "Check for engine lacks power".

Just called my stealer and asked about the hotfix.
Acknowledged that it is on the way. Said he'd had a couple of people asking for it, but when he called Mitsu late last week to find out what was going on he was told they would get it when MM are ready.
MM should get their sh1t together. They are the stealers. Why brief your outlets before your ready to cough up??

Cowboy Dave wrote:Here's another hotline fix (for those with MN models):

ML15-004

Involves part number MS660158

Despite the ML designation in the number I was given it in relation to my MN. The problem fixed relates to a vacuum hose fitted to the bottom of the turbo. The problem is that the hose can fall off the small tube on the bottom of the turbo (as I discovered to my dismay half way up a mountain while towing a horse float  ).

Absent the hose the turbo basically doesn't work and the engine is very ordinary :(. I thought I had encountered the dreaded limp mode

I don't yet have the fix as the nearest dealer (Cootamundra) didn't have the part. I am told though that it consists of a very small clip (along the lines of a hose clamp perhaps?) that would restrain movement in the hose. Apparently dealers are also to apply a special kind of glue/cement to the inside of the hose but with great care since glue entering into the turbo would be less than ideal.

The hose can be checked (or refitted as in my case) without special tools - I can post instructions of sorts if anyone is interested.

Finally got this done today. They noted the hotline fix number as MN15-004 on the invoice though. The service tech guy said the same fix has been published for the Challenger too. Might have already read that here before? Memory a bit fuzzy. Part # MS660158 is described as Clip-D=6.8mm.

Mn's surge.

There is no real fix for this yet. In my case its fuel quality related. They just wont run well on average quality diesel.
Mine has been much worse since the ECU relearn.
I cant get premium diesel here.

Any others having this issue contact MMA Tech on 1300131211.
There is talk of a new manifold design etc, but nothing will be done unless we have feed back.
