2007 GLX-R D. Blowing lots black smoke

My MY has about 70,000 k's on clock, has the squeek in suspension again will take it back for another fix but the black smoke is really bad. The service guys were told of this 10,000 kms ago and blamed it on software, then put on a new different shaped inlet manifold. Said it was a build up of carbon-funny in the air tract before the injectors.
Anyway now the smoke is so bad I had a letter from EPA and a cop pulled me over. Blows smoke when going up gears 1750 till past 2000rpm. All ok on the cruze at highway speeds.
I spoke to a local diesel guy he is thinking EGR and wants to dissconnect it- I'm not so sure but far from expert. He also says that he has an injector pressure measure tool but it only applies to Toyota and others. Will Not work on Triton common rails. He suspects the local service guys at Mitsubishi dealerships will not have the expensive tool and probably no access to one.

No it wouldnt help I thought that may have caused the problem.
Your dealer should sort this problem out, under warranty.
I would just take it to them. Where you from?

I'm from Geelong, Vic.
The local dealer now tells me that is is damaged injectors due to fuel and not covered by warranty!
So I am driving the thing all over the state blowing smoke out the back of my shiny new blue GLX-R. Cannot be a good look for Mitsubishi.
I am just back from two trips- ont the the bushfire areas of King Lake and Mariesville.
The other up to central Vic Bendigo.
Will be heading into Melb city next weekend MCG, Docklands etc past the footy crowds.
See if I can also find some media hot Indian protest groups to drive past..

I have nothing but praise so far for Chadstone Mitsu - the head of servicing is more than willing to listen, lets you know exactly what he's doing and explains things in lay terms - although I've had drama's with the car, no drama's with their service team...

I am having a similar problem with my truck. General driving around is fine however from time to time I will give it the berrys and hold a gear in high revs and she blows a bit. I run Chemtech Diesel Power in ever tank, usually get my juice from Shell/Caltex....

This is more noticeable in the night under car headlights....I usually give it a bit of a run just in order to burn that shit out...is this common?

You will always see the smoke under head light, thats nothing to be worried about.. As mentioned before from to time time they will appear to burn a little more smoke than usual when it goes through it clean out cycle.

You can see my smoke in the day time... sorta like an old bus or truck! Chip makes it slightly worse.

Ok after all this time she is fixed and back good as new-except squeeky springs. The story goes that the EGR is a crap idea and stuff everything up with soot etc. The inlet has a butterfly in it that varies the shape of the inlet tract at different rpm. This gets all gummed up and seezes, gets worse and worse as time goes on and less air gets into cylinders. The fuel mix remains the same and richens up due to the restricted air flow and smoke results. The whole egr thing then feeds on it's self and more crap accumulates. Fuel economy goes to hell, power falls off and the epa send you a letter in the mail...
All fixed under warranty and all is good- however I bet the whole cycle will start again so will block off the EGR asap.
I have been away for a bit so anyone with an easy EGR fix let me know please....

Thanks to Alex- put the fix in and all is heaps better. Got the economy back from 13 L/100 to high 8's low 9's. Now that has got to be better for the environment just there. Also got the power and torque of a new one, 2nd gear wheel spin at the lights.
What a bloody shame the dealership made all excuses [evidently I [censored] the injectors with dodgy fuel?- they are fine now-miracle] and I had to drive around with a piece of shit for 16 months. Go pulled by the jacks for smoke and EPA letter before that for smoke, peope behind would change lane or drop back.
For what? What a bloody embarassment- make the move and block yours up asap is my call-contact Alex via the above link that Tex posted.
