Did they come out with the torque wrench and do it where it was parked?
I just rang them and asked the torque setting and said I would do it myself. The service adviser went right off and refused to tell me after I pointed out it was my vehicle and I was more than capable of doing it. Checked them both and gave them a tweak to be safe. Pissy little 12mm head bolts with no locking.
I just can't be bothered with booking it in, going there and waiting for some moron to do a 30sec job and worrying that they might open the bonnet and spot the chip and boost mods.

Just rang up another dealer and it's more involved because they might have to replace the ball joints.

Replaced the bolts when I did the suspension mods and even went to the extent of using longer bolts with nylock nuts on the lower section of the thread........but then I have modded top arms. Safety first.

ML recall

Postby shotgun283 on Tue Jun 15, 2010 3:29 pm

Has anyone heard about the recall by the Australian Competition & Consumer Commision. they say the ML has the potential for suspension bolts to come loose that can lead to excessive suspension noise, and worse case is for the ball joint to detach. This was in the stock journal last week

hey shot gun I received a letter for that today from mitsi, say that it is a voluntary recall to check the bolts on the ball joint as they might not have been tightened with sufficient torque and may come loose causing excessive suspension noise or cause the ball joint to become detached from suspension arm. This is what was written on the letter

I can sticky it, but I'm pretty sure it won't make much of a difference

got my letter today.... doesn't sound to serious more like a precautionary measure... the only thing i have noticed about my suspension is the front shocks maybe fading out.... not as firm from when i first got her.
i vote for a html version of the Gasa strip in between the 2 sites. then the goons who wanna get all parochial about their trucks can chuck rocks and shit at each other. by cyberhonky on Wed Jul 15, 2009 6:37 am

I thought the same thing. :o :o
I got my letter the other day and thought it wasn't much to be concerned about. I was in town today, so i thought i'd stop in and see how long it would take to get it checked.
I was lucky, they said it would just take a few minutes to do it and they could do it straight away.

When they looked at it one bold had sheered right off and gone, and 2 others sheered off when they tried to back-off the bolt before torquing them down.

End result, after removing the small bits left in the hole they replaced them all (6 of them) with high tensile bolt.

As they pointed out, this could be due to my suspension up grade and the larger tires........
But they also stated that this was the reason for the recall, the bolts are subjected to a lot more pressure if they are not torqued down right.
All done under warranty!
Cheers Johno

Does this only apply to Tritons with standard suspension? i.e. if you've had your suspension done - will this recall still need to be done?

I doubt a recall letter will make it to me - I don't know if Mits has my address - I don't have an address.

I'd say so, Nathan, the ball joints aren't part of any standard suspension upgrade...
