SURE POWER SEPARATOR
PRODUCT RECALL
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ARB wishes to advise its customers of an official voluntary product safety recall by its supplier Sure Power.

The recall relates to model 1314 and 1315 Sure Power Separators supplied between August 2009 and June 2011 in a specific serial number range. These units were until recently also included in some ARB Dual Battery Kits.

Please note that the recall only applies to units within the serial number range listed in the recall notice below.

It is believed some units may have internal circuit board capacitor failure which may lead to overheating, smoke and/or fire during or following use.

It is imperative that customers stop using the product immediately and contact Sure Power Inc directly to exchange the recalled unit for an equivalent replacement product or full refund.

ARB staff will not be able to assist customers unless they have contacted Sure Power to register their product, and therefore we ask customers to follow this procedure to make the process as smooth as possible.

Sure Power has set up a free call number specifically for this recall. Customers can register their unit on the number below.

Free call: 1800 649 913

Please click here for an official recall notice from Sure Power which includes a list of affected serial numbers.

Sure Power and ARB are working closely to rectify this issue as soon as possible and we thank you for your patience during this time.

Best regards

ARB Product Recall

Postby GadgetMN on Fri Aug 19, 2011 9:54 am

Looking around, came across this note, just in case someone has one installed... not sure warranty would cover a cabin fire from after market part?!?

PRODUCT SAFETY RECALL—Sure Power Battery Separator Model Numbers 1314 and 1315
Dear Customer:
Sure Power, Inc. (Sure Power) has been producing quality, ruggedized power conversion and power management products for 52 years, with an outstanding record of performance in the challenging non-automotive transportation application environment.
Unfortunately, we have had reports of overheating, smoke and on rare occasions, fire, in battery separators models 1314 (serial number range 09004545 to 10008041) and 1315 (serial number range 09002323 to 10003168) (the thermal events). The products were sold in Australia by ARB Corporation Ltd (ARB) and/or re-sold by ARB customers. ARB also sold this product as part of their ARB Dual Battery Tray Kit.
We have been conducting an investigation, including extensive analysis and testing, and though we have not yet been able to determine the actual cause of the thermal events, we currently believe that some units may suffer an internal circuit board capacitor failure, which could lead to overheating, smoke and, on rare occasions, fire.
This may put our customers at risk of property damage or injury, and so we have decided to initiate an immediate recall of the products. We have attached a copy of the recall notice for your information.
If you have either of the affected products please immediately stop using it and either call Sure Power at 1-800-649-913 or e-mail at recall@surepower.com for direction on how to exchange the product for an equivalent replacement product (12V 100A Red Arc SBI12 Battery Isolator) or a refund. Alternatively, please return the product to Sure Power at Reply Paid 2577, Sure Power, PO Box 2577, Smithfield NSW 2164, along with your name, address and telephone number, and specify whether you would prefer refund or replacement.
We are very dedicated to quality and excellence in customer service, and we apologize for any inconvenience this recall may cause. Please feel free to contact us with any question or concerns.
Very Best Regards,
James M Henley
