The local dealer where I am uses pretty much the cheapest Castrol oil they can get which only just meets spec. They were very coy about telling me what it is so now I avoid going there ("It's 15w40, that's all we can tell you"), like it was a big trade secret  . They will not use oil supplied by the owner even if it is far higher spec and quality.

Some good oils out there that aren't over the top price wise e.g. Caltex Delo 400 (just get the right one). ;)

Some dealers do use good, even very good, quality oils but others use the cheapest oil that will scrape them through the warranty period. That is their attitude towards vehicle care.... :x

Such dealers are best avoided for service work.

HAVOLINE FULLY SYNTHETIC C3 5W-30 is the proper name i got for this oil from the caltex website. being fully synthetic i would assume it would be a decent oil.
still struggling to track down where to buy it from thou

And caltex servos.

But you're not bound to use the same one, just look at the specs in the book and make sure what you buy meets that. That oils ain't oils thread has plenty of other brands and discussion etc.

A Caltex depot is probably better and cheaper than a servo. ;)

When i say its what we use, Thats here at Eagers,

Every dealer will have their own suppliers of oils, All of ours are Caltex, 10 years ago they were Castrol,

That is not recessarily whats in your car from new but topping up the factory oil with this oil is ok.

Mudgee dealer used Penrite HPR 15-50 last time I was there.

I wouldn't get too much in a knot over mixing oils or changing brands long as they are within spec. You may even mix mineral, semi synthetic and synthetic if you have to so get out of trouble.

We do it all the time with our fleet and see well over 12000hrs without overhaul. The diesel pumps do over 20000 hrs and always have mixed oils as we use the leftovers from plant servicing.

some oils are over rated too.

genuine oil?

Postby biggibbo on Wed Nov 20, 2013 4:21 pm

My dealer uses castrol magna crap

I supply HPR 15 and he throws me a spare oil filter for the 7500 change. Can't reduce the price as it's still under a lease maintenance program.

Our local dealer uses shell, well last time I asked.
(2012 GLX)
I am using penrite synthetic enviro+ 5w/40.
Has been since new.
I supply the oil at services and they take $60.00 off the fixed price servicing.
They are quite happy to use it.

My Dealer just emailed me back and said they use Castrol Semi Synthetic 15W/40 which is the Castrol Magnetic. This is about $78 for 10L locally.

Castrol's site also says Castrol Edge, but at $70 for 5L i think i'll give that one a miss
