Front Brakes - Pad shims/spacers???

Postby MilkmanDan on Sat Sep 20, 2014 2:29 pm

Hi all,

I recently did my front brakes, GSL Rallysport supplied (do recommend) QFM pads and dba t2 rotors. Great combo and do recommend, 11ty times better than the standard rubbish.

I've noticed though a rattle over bumps and get a 'click' when I begin to brake, nothing loose I can find, strut bushes are good so I can only think that there maybe a shin or spacer that sits behind the pads to the caliper piston that may be casing the pads to float so to speak. Do standard brakes have this as when I changed did not pull one out?

Cheers, Ash

Interdasting, I'm guessing previous pad change they were never reinstalled.

I replied before but must have lost wifi...

I have run the front pads without the spacers. I never had a rattle or click...from memory I had a slight squeak...very slight, from what I think was vibration but nothing like what you are saying...sounds a little strange.

I always thought they provide as much a heat shield as they do a spacer shim...
I hate to advocate drugs, sex, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they’ve always worked for me.

I still have the new shims, 4 of them, from when i Fitted DBA rotors and pads .... I used the original mitsu after cleaning them up.
I presume they all the same ..
send me a pm with your address and I'll post the 4 to you... nil cost.
cheers, Rod
