Just figured out mine missed the 100k replacement. What should I be paying to get it done?

G`day frmby
Had mine done about a month ago at Australian Mts Morphetvale $500
Done on time and no hassles, plus a check on the computer as it was just occasionally puffed a slight bit of black smoke on acceleration from the lights. Just arrived back from a trip to Hobart and fuel was 8.6 Lts per 100, and no more smoke.

G'day Pearcey,

Thanks for that info, I do y own servicing except for this sort of thing, so the info was great seeing as AM at Morphett Vale is my nearest dealer as well (Live at Brighton)

I`m a retired Mech and also do my own servicing but with the couple of warranty issues and the cooling system campaign I have used AM Morphettvale and have been very happy with their service and their attitude.

A dealer told me today that they dont do the idle bearings when changing the belts. Wtf!! on a side note someone posted a hotfix for the balance shaft pulley issue. I can not find it anywhere.

Problem is if you go genuine, as a dealer would, they don't supply a full kit including all idlers so each component is purchased individually. Quite costly compared to an aftermarket "kit" that typicly includes all perishable components.

Been using Gates gear for donkeys, they do a full kit or belts as a kit. Buy through a mate and get your dealer/mechanic to fit, will be cheaper than 'genuine' parts

Much cheaper, probably around 40% from my experience however most dealers wont warrant use of non genuine timing kits should something let go.

Maybe post them up in the thread?

I'll likely go aftermarket but will have to compare the pricing.

If we have a list maybe someone like Lee can put together a price for the whole "kit".

Gates Timing Belt Kits

Postby Monaro03 on Thu Dec 12, 2019 8:38 am

Hi all
Firstly apologies if this is covered else where. I am closing in to 200000km in my Triton MN. This also means the timing belt is due very soon. The last time I did do the belt I used all genuine parts.

As I have been researching I have noticed I can purchase complete kits that are Gates and save a great deal more. Just wondering if members have gone that way and if so are you happy with Gates parts? I am also looking to change the water pump which is gates branded also.

Any thoughts and sharing experiences would be greatly appreciated.
cheers

Gates or Dayco kits are fine. Use with confidence.

I would go for a kit with a water pump included for the 200000km belt change for peace of mind.

Kits are the way to go. All fitted and bits looked better than what was removed when I did my son's MN a while back.

Don't forget, vehicle manufactures don't actually product their 'genuine' parts in most cases.
