Auto fluid capacity

Postby sed8td on Thu May 23, 2019 3:49 pm

I'm wanting to do a automatic transmission service and cannot find how much fluid required to just drop pan, change filter and refill.
I know it's not a complete change, but looking to change it every 20k or so.

Capacities can vary according to engine and gearbox combination. Check your Owner's Manual.

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

They all say 9.7l dry fill.
I thought someone may have done a service just sump and filter and may know.
BTW, it's a 4sp auto.

Measure what you take out and replace the same quantity. Then check.

About 5l will come out . If you leave it longer about another 400ml. It's a bit annoying as the Penrite semi syn I use comes in 4l or 1 unless you want 20l.

That's what I'm going to use.
Lucky I have approx 2l left from another service to previous car so I should be safe to purchase another 4l.
Cheers for the info

I did the transmission fluid change in my MQ a few months back and the easiest way to do is to actually measure the amount of oil that comes out of the transmission. I had drained mine overnight and had about 4.5litres out and oil was no longer dripping out of drin hole at that point.

I went through about 15litres of oil as i kept flushing the transmission with fresh oil until the color of oil drained was very close to the colour of fresh oil. It is not an easy task and it will be very long and frustrating process

When I serviced my son's mn last year, we measured what drained out before doing a complete flush via the cooler lines. Altimately, put about 12l through it for flushing and kept about 4l in reserve for topping up afterwards, as required.

So realistically, allow about 16 to 20l on hand.

I drained 5.5 litres out and changed filter, topped up again.
I'm just going to drain and refill the 5.5l every 5000k service until it's clean.
Then filter change again.
