I have been recomended to use Castrol Magnatec 10W - 40 as i change my oil every 7000kms, the other major services done by my mechanic and if i have to ill take it to mitsubishi for the others as my truck only has 26000kms on it.

Just changed the oil at 7500kms. I put Penrite HPR15 Diesel, it is a Semi Synthetic Blend 15W-50. Its the first ever oil change, I find it now idles a lot smoother.

The filter cost me 19.45 and the 10L drum of oil was 70....

In doing this I found the Triton to have a limited clearance....similar to the Mrs old Lancer!

No worries mate, thats what we are all here for. I have also been told the filters are the same as Genuine Toyota filters...they have a drain valve as well...

My mechanic used Castrol Syntrans 75w/85 in the gearbox and transfer case @45000kms service last week. He said if you tow or long high speed crusin that it was the go. $15 a litre tho

Repco in WA currently have Penrite HPR Diesel 15 which is 15W-50 semi synthetic on special at $24.99 for 5L if you buy 2.
That's the one they recommend for the 3.2 on their site.
The 2.5 has different oils listed so I rang the technical help line and was told that the 2.5 can have a particulate filter in the exhaust in Europe which needs the special oil grade. If it hasn't got it then the same oil as the 3.2 would be the go.
I'm sure we have no particulate filter on ours and grabbed a couple of the 15's.
If the dealers are using 10W-30 it would have thought it was too thin for the summer when the road temp. can hit 60deg in traffic.

Poll - Oil Types Used by ML Owners

Postby Bundy Buddies on Sun Nov 01, 2009 1:27 pm

As it seems by reading the various threads, just about everyone is doing something for themselves to reduce cost's.
I to like to keep my hard earned dollars in my pocket for better things so yes I do undertake my own oil changes every 7,500K's. So it started me to wonder what oils do people use.

So if you would like to follow suit, it might be great to see what people are using.

Engine: 3.2L Turbo Diesel
Brand: Fuchs Oil
Titan Super GTO
Vis: SAE 10W-40 MC Synthese.

Happy Servicing.

Oils ain't Oils, Sol

I got another 2 x 5L while the special was on for the 15,000km service.
Someone mentioned Penrite Sin 0W-40 full synthetic which is now 0W-50 and I'm pretty sure it was for a 3.2.
Looking at their site it doesn't appear suitable for a diesel, possibly because it's not a high detergent oil?

I am using Nulon 15 40 for Diesels and with EGR blanked it still looks pretty good at a 15k change. Certainly still too good to change at 7500km.

does anyone know if I can get the right crush washer from somewhere other than Mitsubishi? If so, what size is it that I need?

Still running the magnatec here but keen to change.

Hey CB (and anyone else), if you plan on doing your own oil changes, I highly recommend getting a Fumoto oil drain valve - no more crush washers, or oil running down your arm 8-)

The 2.5 sump drain is very close to the cross member and it looked like the drain valve wouldn't work/fit when I changed my oil? I'm assuming the sump on the 2.5HP is the same.

now you tell me... oh well, just ordered one online so I guess if it shows up and won't fit there might be an ML owner out there who wants one.

If it fits and is useable without dropping the shield let me know and I'll get one too.
Remember that if it's too close to that cross member the movement on the engine mounts could break it off.

Yeah guys the dealer is trustworthy. I bought mine from his house which is not very far from me. I have a 3,2 engine & it works fine without hitting anything. I just connect a hose onto the end of the valve & open it. Nice & clean.
