Wow!! It seems amazing that the cost of the same job can vary so much.

Reading the service booklet, the 45k & 90k service are similar, except that the grease nipples get a feel as well at 90k. Lub replacement in Trans & Diffs would add up, but over around $600?? Most of the service work is a "looky".

I'm just starting to look at moving our 307 Pug. The unit has fantastic economy and is generally a good drive, however, we will be up for $400 for 3litres of additive (has FAP), big cost for timing belt at around 100k, disc brakes and wheel bearings will be killers as well. We will proably look at something like a Lancer, petrol - less economy - however more than offset by lower repayments, less interest and maintenance costs!

I must stress to all and in particular those who don't use mitsi service. $150 of the cost was replacement of 2 injector pipes. These need to be removed for tappet adjustment. Apparantly they can only be reused 4 times but must also be inspected for pitting prior to refitting. Mine were pitted as shown to me by the dealer. These pipe fittings compress in their tapered fittings and must be torqued correctly with a specific tool which a lot of independants are unlikely to have.
Due to high pressure diesel these can leak if not maintained, the leak ends up in the motor and the result, catastrophic engine failure. If this occurs and the items have not been maintained or replaced at max usage MMAL will not cover for warranty.
This means expensive................

yes but as long as you mechanic is any good he will be up to date and check and carry out what is required, unless you tell him otherwise in which case it would be your own fault.

I had trans, transfer and diff oils replaced at 45k, service inclusive of these items was $400 and some...

Every 45k all the drive line oils get changed. So front and rear diffs, engine, auto trans or manual and the transfer case. On the diesels every 30k the valves are checked and adjusted. The valves on their own are a few hour job.

The time allowed for the 90k is about 4.8 hours plus the parts.

The petrol get the timing belt done at 90k due to mitsi not having a 100k service interval.

Not touched unless an audible discrepancy is found - from several horses mouths... My 30 and 60k services were marginally dearer then my 15/45k but I seem to get one of the cheapest deals from the guy's using Mitsu for their service...

At my work we do the valves every 30k due to what we have seen is that most of the valves recess and ride hence that they wont be audibly loud.

Gee Tex..some of those costs look like RRP!

Workshop supplies and waste oil disposal are a classic...like dealer delivery charges! Then they have a 1500 inspection service to make sure that anything that wasn't done pre-delivery can be brushed away before anyone notices.

The maintenance parts area has got to be the biggest rort going... 90% of the road fleet could be covered by three or four oil, fuel and air filters of each type! Same goes for brakes.

And..as I have previously stated, who would design an engine head arrangement that requires the fuel system or any other major components to be disturbed to carry out what would be considered routine maintenance such as valve clearance adjustment?

andyj ; There's your changeover delivery charge towards your new ride ...?

Looking at the Warranty details, your out of warranty on the powertrain at 160,000km and the rest of the vehicle is finished at 130k. From this point on I'll probably do everything I can myself.

Problem is its a lease car so no choice have to keep up the servicing

But did a bit of a ring round and got it down by $200 in Singleton......

Did a bit more digging and can get it done in Tamworth for $500 less...... :)

Its because the fuel lines have to be replaced due to them being on and off when the tappets have been done.......

andyj; I rest my case!

There'll be a few guys quivering like they're shitt*** razor blades..at the upcoming service costs.

I looked at getting a Santa fe a while back and to keep the 5yr warranty you'd fork out over $5k over the five years on top of your other outgoings - so some of the purchase / economy benefits are gobbled up.
